1john 3:8

8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 11For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

if one is living in habitual sin ( there is a difference in sining vs practicing sin 24/7 ) no change you may not be as saved as you think...

i realize this will probably kick the golden cow of religion over . we have way to much of this do as we please if we please .. thinking were still ok. true salvation will have repentance and conviction in our life.. there will most likely be some chastisement / a trip to God wood shed . we can be like a mule looking at a new gate . another good scripture go by 1 john 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

It's one thing to sin in shame and repent but another to flaunt our sin. A large problem in this day and age is we celebrate sin. No longer do we hide our sin in private but openly display it and demand others celebrate.
i agree verse 8 states the obvious if we practice it on a regular bases and Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Think some have used that very text to state that one must reach somehow a sinless perfection state in order to be really saved, but the truth is referring to habitual lifestyle sinning, without any conviction, desire to change etc Would be like someone now saved by was into alcohol big time, and at times "falls off the wagon", but takes it to the Lord and asks for forgiveness and strength, contrasted to someone who stops by into local bar after work every night, and just keeps on enjoying getting smashed on a nightly basis

that dont take place till you hit even.. finial sanctification. i john 1:9 write checks on it all day long that and we have a advocate
