Personal Christianity

Very lay friendly and melds history with “lights” of key points. Personal indeed. Using him along with my carry ESV Study Bible in tow for our church’s study of the book of Hebrews.

Hebrews really is 📌 joining OT and NT for us grafted ins. I’ve learned so much about the summation of the OT as it applies to NT and Acts.

Past - John Gill

Bible Study Tools John Gill’s Bible Exposition

Gill can be found numerous source sites.

Do not minimize and box him into KJVO or Calvinistic Baptist Theology. He literally spent his whole adult life in research with this opus production. His grasp of original language is breathtaking!

Introduction to John Gill

“Dr John Gill's greatest work was the nine volumes he authored of his Exposition of the Bible. All nine volumes are presented on this website with full Bible navigation and linked verse references.

Dr Gill was a Baptist pastor and served his congregation for 51 years. During this time, he became a prolific author. In 1757 his congregation needed larger premises and moved to Carter Lane, St. Olave's Street, Southwark in London, England. This Baptist church was once pastored by Benjamin Keach and later became the New Park Street Chapel and then the Metropolitan Tabernacle, pastored by Charles Spurgeon.”

He was a Reformed baptist, in doctrines at times seemed to be hyper Calvinist , I do not say this badly of him, as I am a Reformed baptist myself, but in places his theology went beyond us "regular Calvinists"

YF,

Fair assessment.

Not a simple read to be sure.

What I respect of Gill is his lifelong dedication to The Word and the less muddied influence of what we modern followers of I AM must contend.

I was “baptized” (aka sprinkled) as a Presbyterian baby.
The more I have learned about the heresy of The UN World Council of Churches the farther I ran from Presbyterian USA fallen leadership.

When I was shaken by the knock ✊🏾 s I fled finally to being baptized in a river with junior high youth.

I may attend a local church not entangled with session pressures or the horrors of UCC but am not a member labeled Presbyterian.

I choose to say I follow I AM. No denomination designation other than part of the fellowship of the Bride Church of The Great GOD Almighty I AM.

May GOD correct me if in err. Which He certainly did, does, and will do. Being pruned!

I leave His judgment of my heart as He knows me better than I know myself.

IESOUS CHRISTOS is the heart knower.

Amen.

Dr. Scott Pauley earned his doctorate at Crown College and is a known person in our conservative region. Outlanders - of sorts - will find his delivery offputting.

One can certainly respect his track record of moral behavior in this an increasingly darkening world.

I depart from hyper-flag waving however. The betrayal of our government will not go without pain to the citizenry of this our country and what was visited upon the whole world. I know many families suffering now personally.

Surely Jesus weeps!

The person behind Impact Video Ministries on YouTube.
Also, Ravi Zacharias, RIP.
hard to support that last person, as he seemed to have turned out to been a wolf in sheeps clothing

I used to sit around late at night and watch Gene Scott ramble on about hell and horses. Good times.

Hello everyone;

I'd like to share my thoughts.

Pastor Ravi Zacharias, a minister from the past. I remember he was in ministry for 40+ years (or more?) I know he got caught up in public allegations and media criticism.

But so did my mentor
Pastor John F. MacArthur. He was a Calvinist Baptist Pastor and long time pastor for 56+ years at the same Church. He was also caught up in public allegations.

Pastor Gene Scott is another name from the past. He served God for 50+ years and though I didn't agree with all his doctrine regarding marriage, (name me someone in ministry we all agree 100%) he was a human being who did the Lord's work.

I don't know much about
Dr. Scott Pauley but he accomplished much in his academic discipline and received his MDiv and DMin. preparing him for the Lord's work in evangelism.

Going back to my commentator Pastor John MacArthur, in 2020 when Churches in California were ordered to lock down because of COVID, I submitted to the order so our Church met on ZOOM for a few months. I remember Church members who logged on with their pjs, bathrobes and a cup of coffee.
👺Grrrrrr!

When the county allowed us to gather again in the sanctuary it was tough getting the members to show up on time.
Yet, MacArthur defied the California order and continued to meet in Church. Later he was ruled in favor of the Supreme Court to hold indoor services.

I didn't agree with all Pastor MacArthur's doctrines. Serving as a Pastor is a tough gig. But early in my studies at seminary and his 1991 book, The Master's Plan for the Church, inspired me to receive the calling in the Pastoral ministry.
God bless everyone.

Bob

Smile to Bob! Good redux!

Not a fan of MacArthur’s doctrine position on one important theme personally however…

Interesting his name was brought up this last Sunday in our Bible Study. Our Pastor well read and attended many St. Andrew’s Chapel meetings, clearly a reform in doctrinal type.

He told us that Sproul and MacArthur were friends but diametrically opposed on the contentious “secret rapture.”

I did admire MacArthur taking on the California machine one of the very few with the guts to keep their sanctuaries open.

What irks me are the people standing at the pulpit telling their congregations that Jesus wanted them to take the COVID shots. They are NOT pastors protecting their sheep.

Name that evangelist that projected this apostasy if you can recall.

At the beginning of the nightmare in 2020 the Baptist person standing at the pulpit refused to address this life or death struggle at all the church we attended. We left.

I thought he was great, a real straight shooter. He wasn't soft or gentle. He'd rub you the wrong way and never apologize. And he always wanted your money.

Joke's on him -- I never gave even one penny! But 3:00 AM, after the bars closed, I'd eat takeout and just watch him.

I'm a bit partial to Martyn Lloyd Jones
I was greatly helped on his Romans commentary, also his audios are all over the place.
Very sound, in the manner of a Puritan, also old school. lol

Ah I like ole guys Crossnote!

The older I get the more attracted am I to white haired theologians <wink>

There’s bunch on one of the devotionals I take for verses of the day.
