devil for real?

devil for real?

My view of the faith does not put much emphasis on Satan. I noticed reading these forums, he is alive and well in his sparkly red outfit, horns and a serpent's tail with a trident.
I've read enough theology that the idea of evil is the issue rather than
this fallen schmuck. With all due respect this idea of hell with devils concerns many people and the Brute is a part of everyday life.
I know of his various roles throughout scripture. Where does this core belief come from. What theologian gave him the authority to scare people into a pattern of behaviour.
It was my belief that he really gained his notoriety in the Middle Ages. The clergy needed a worse place to be then on this earth, life was so horrible at that time. Dante had Lucifer in circle 9 of the Inferno with three heads the great betrayers-Judas, Cassius and Brutus.
How many think he is a being that is a daily threat? What role does he play? What experiences have people had with this Miscreant?

Let the Bible speak.
Here is just a small selection

Mat 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit up into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil.Mat 4:2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterwards hungry. Mat 4:3 And when the tempter came to Him, he said, If You are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.Mat 4:4 But He answered and said, It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." Mat 4:5 Then the Devil took Him up into the holy city and set Him upon a pinnacle of the Temple. Mat 4:6 And he said to Him, If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down. For it is written, "He shall give His angels charge concerning You, and in their hands they shall bear You up, lest at any time You dash Your foot against a stone.Mat 4:7 Jesus said to him, It is written again, "You shall not tempt the Lord your God." Mat 4:8 Again, the Devil took Him up into a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. Mat 4:9 And he said to Him, All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me. Mat 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, Go, Satan! For it is written, "You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve." Mat 4:11 Then the Devil left him. And behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

Mat 13:39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

Eph 4:27 Neither give place to the devil

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devill, and he will flee from you.

1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

spiritually speaking Jesus said if your not with the truth, then you are actually aggainst the truth, for what truth do you have if not Jesus.personally i thing the earth is live a giant vat of mixed spirits.there is no way out but through the door.so then evil gets stronger spiritually by these happenings and obviously the world gets worse.:(

There is proof of satan in Genesis; the very beginning~
The proof is in believing the Bible~

The devil does not rule Hell- rather, he is the most powerful being there. He wants to drag down as many of us as possible. Some of us don't need to be told twice:(

Great scriptures brother !
We know satan is real and he means no good but he is certainly not a large part of my daily focus. My eyes, my hope and my faith are in Jesus Christ my Lord. Does that mean I won't occasionally have to deal with the other guy? No. Do I see him under every rock and behind every bush? No.

1Jn 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

I agree 100%. I only quoted those scriptures to answer the question from the OP as to if he is real.
Our focus is on The Lord

Eph 6:10 As to the rest, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might;
Eph 6:11 put on the whole armour of God, for your being able to stand against the wiles of the devil,
Eph 6:12 because we have not the wrestling with blood and flesh, but with the principalities, with the authorities, with the world-rulers of the darkness of this age, with the spiritual things of the evil in the heavenly places;
Eph 6:13 because of this take ye up the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to resist in the day of the evil, and all things having done--to stand.

Here is just one more example. Satan is alive and real and he does have power. The problem is when we don’t believe that Jesus gave us the authority to overcome that power with the power given to us. We need to exercise that authority, or we give satan the authority to rule us.

God either is… or He isn’t.
The Bible is either true… or it isn’t. All of it… or none of it. I believe all of it is true. Jesus talked more about hell than He did about heaven. That tells me it is something I need to know about. I believe satan’s biggest threat in my life is to harass me and confuse me. If he can do that, I will be less effective in ministering the gospel to others. And as far as demons? I can’t find anything in the Bible that says they don’t exist anymore. If they don’t… where did they go?

We were all born on a battlefield. If we weren’t, why would we be told to put on the whole armor of God?

Blessings
Dean

Wrong question

I'm familiar enough with scripture to know the passages quoted. I don't take the Bible and face value it has to be understood within the context it has been written. One moment he is a snake, then is playing a game with God in Job. Each reference is different and his job is different.
If just reading scripture, as is, how can it be interpreted within the context it was written. The idea of this devil being part of my daily problems would just be scary and my therapist would be treating me for Diabloness.
Having said that I have not dismissed him but have left it in the realms of Christian mysticism. I read a Jesuit account of exorcisms and god a bit spooked. It is scar.

evil works aggainst people,by kidding you that you are special.you are the only one who understands.lol.

The Bible is the Word of God and is inspired by the Holy Spirit and written through men.
Everything God said, is true.
The Bible also tells the stories of certain people , obviously they are there to encourage or exhort.
The Bible is literal, and has to be understood through the revelation of the Holy Spirit, the natural mind cannot comprehend it properly and it can become a book of rules to burden people with.

Do not fear their fear...

Satan shouldn't bother any Christians.

Lu 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you.

God is in control brothers and sisters,
We don't see that much emphasis put on Satans POWER in the scriptures. We don't see him given much credit for things that happen either. It always comes back to God being the one in control.

Don't fear the Devil, have faith and use the authority you were given through Christ Jesus.

God bless,
Marc.

I'm only curious, what IS left for you to believe?

Some people think they know enough, others think they have more to learn. The more I learn, the more I find I have to learn. Some don't go in that direction and hit dead ends. God will sort it out. :)

correct and it is a spiritual warzone.

I could not agree with you more on this one smellycat. :)

There are very many scriptures that refer all of this, it's up to us to believe it. I do believe!!! God does not like it when people try to communicate with the dead, there are spirits roaming about in which enter our bodies through sin. If a person and their body (temple) is not set free by Jesus they are likely to "not believe" and that makes this scripture important to them:

Revelation 21:8

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death

Marc, I half-agree with you. Surely we have the power over unclean spirits and satan (only by Jesus). However satan himself can devour us. The scripture doesnt say kill, decieve it says devour. This is pretty frightning if you aren't wearing the Full Armor of God and Holding a great big Sword of the Holy Spirit (which is the Word of God). Satan has no power over us UNLESS we are decieved by him. Please do check out my thread "that ancient serpent called the devil" I would really enjoy exploring this topic with all of you

That's basically what I meant. If we ABIDE IN Christ (And I stress the IN), and exercise authority and cast down imaginations, etc. etc. , what do we have to worry about him for, right? That's all I'm saying.
