Here's a thought

Matthew 8:29
29"What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?" 30Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. 31The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs."
32He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.

Could Jesus have done this to symbolize the end. He could have just cast the demons out right. But the demons said have you come here to torture us before the appointed time. Which I feel they are talking about their judgment to come in Revelation. So Jesus cast the demons into the pigs and they ran off into the lake. Could this be symbolic of Jesus, on Judgment day, will cast the demons into the lake of fire. Just a thought.

Maybe...I think Jesus use this to show the other people who He was...also a little mercy...He gave them what they wanted temporarily...

The real question is where did they go after the pigs died?

maybe the water was a refrence to them going back to the underworld, like we was discussing about demons being invited up.maybe jesus sent them back.

The real question is where did they go after the pigs died?

Here in Mark, it talks about the heard of swine and the demons. The demon says his name is “Legion: for we are many”. I believe the main point here is the demon/demons, made the swine go into the sea.

Mar 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
Mar 5:10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
Mar 5:11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
Mar 5:12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
Mar 5:13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand) and were choked in the sea.

If we go back to Psalms, we see in chapter 74, verse 14, it talks about “leviathan” and Thou didst break the “heads” of leviathan. Notice it says heads. More than one. And leviathan lives in the sea.

Psa 74:14 Thou didst break the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him tobe meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

I believe the swine went into the sea, because they are associated with leviathan. Different demons for different functions.

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Principalities… powers… rulers…
It’s all plural. It keeps bringing me back to the word “many”. There are a lot of demons… all over. Different types of demons for different jobs. Leviathan has more than one head, so does more than one thing. Then there is jezebel, python, the spirit of fear. Mind binding spirits.
Ever have something right on the tip of your tonuge and you just can‘t get it out? Have you ever experienced a situation where you know that you know something, but just can’t think of it? Could it be a demon messing with you?

Have you ever said something to someone and they heard something totally different than what you said?
That’s leviathan. He twists words.

Anyway, that’s about all I have for now.

It is hard to say really but we do know that Jesus cast them out almost everywhere He went.
He also healed diseases, restored sight and hearing- each was not only a miracle but a sign if the restoration we would have in the new birth. Spiritual healing bestowed on us, our spiritual eyes and ears opened- nothing Jesus did happened by chance.

even the swine did not want these demons, and would rather die.this is what we do like jesus,we die then hope for resurrection in jesus name.:)

I guess this shows the danger of going too far with allegorical interpretation... when we start looking for meanings within meanings, you can eventually end up seeing whatever you want in the text... I know that the Bible tells us specifically that there are symbols and in turn, tells us in some cases exactly what those symbols mean, a clear cut "this means that" sort of thing... eg where Jesus interprets one of His parables by saying that the rocks on stony ground represent people who at first seem to embrace the faith but then the cares of this world choke off any real growth.... that sort of thing is safe and certain...

not that anyone has gone to extremes in engaging in fantastical allegorical interpretations and elaborate schemes here or anything.... this is just an observation... so for me anyways.... unless we have a clear - cut biblical self interpretation telling us what certain things mean or represent I will stay away from engaging in too much ...speculation

I know how easy it is to misread people on the net, so just to be sure no one misunderstands me... I am not criticizing anyone in particular or anything like that.... the OP just reminded me of church history where the 2 schools of interpretation... allegorical versus grammatical/historical fought it out to see which method was the preferable method of interpretation.. nothing more so please, I did not want to criticize anyone by my comments.

blessings,
Ken
