I can only express sadness that the conservative independent Baptists continue to separate from each other over unimportant matters such as KJV only.

IN times past, it used to be that independent Baptists separated themselves from other Christians over important doctrines, such as the virgin birth of Christ or the inspiration of the Scriptures or salvation in baptism. Today, the independents are separating, even among themselves, over issues such as Bible translations, music style, and dress.

We are commanded to pull away from groups or churches holding to heresy, or who have moral standards of the world and not the Bible, but many separate today based upon not those things, but upon personal convictions and preferences, such KJVO

There are some very good posts this morning around the forum. I came across your posts and wanted to share my thoughts.

After the Reformation and it's core doctrine, sola scriptura, other Protestant Churches formed. As YeshuaFan pointed out, it was to be One Church of Christ but differences in doctrine, moderate theology and attitudes led to the formation of denominations.

I have to be honest, from studying The Baptist Heritage, Four Centuries of Baptist Witness (H. Leon McBeth) revealed the Baptist Churches from the first American Baptist and Southern Baptist Convention in 1845 led to divisions and splits within to form other flavors of the Baptist Church, thus the Independent Baptists.

At times I wonder when a "shake-up" would come about with our Churches but seems an impossibility. Of course, all things are possible with our God but without ears to hear it does make it hard to come together as One.

Starting with myself, we are Southern Baptists and worship/serve at a Southern Baptist Church, but when I'm out in the community or abroad I don't wear Southern Baptist on my forehead but a man of God on my heart, of all Believers who follow Christ.

I am a Baptist, but think at times we also can get too much into "our Baptist heritage", as we can feud between ourselves on issues like which bible to use, to speak in tongues or not, over Calvinism vrs free will etc

Yes sir. You know that I am a Southern Baptist. That is not because we are better or smarter or special. I am one because of two thing......
1. The Cooperative program does an excellent job in funding missions all over the world.
2. I my opinion, on the whole, the SBC works harder to teach the fundamental truths of Scripture.

I as weel as you travel. Not as much as I used to but still do. When traveling ww attend whatever church we come across on a Sunday. We try to attend those little churches that are out of the way and maybe have only 10 or 12 cars at them.

It is a blessing to me to go to one of those churches, and have someone announce, "we do not have a Pastor, is there someone here who feels called to bring us a message"?

Usually it is my wife who speaks up and say........."Boy have I got news for you!"

Funny fact.............My sister in law has played the piano for the same church for 40 years or more. She is awsome!
She and my wife and brother law were in Townsend NC one year. In a little place there called "Rockey Brach" they have a blue grass picken and grinning session every Friday night.

The night we happened to be there.....someone announce that the piano player was sick and there was not going to be a session.
I stood up and announce........"Boy have I got news for YOU!"

About that part of being willing to speak up with a message at another church, reminded me of the story heard about John MacArthur, who fresh out of Seminary was invited by a fellow classmate of his to come to his church in Ca, as needed another pastor on staff, and he had to show up and gave a message and then the Board would decide yay or nay. Dr mac came, went up to the podium, and proceeded to preach from Romans. he friend came up to him and told him that he had the position at their church, but suggested to watch his sermon length, as he had just preached for 4 hours to them.

FOUR hours and he got the job?????

I would not have voted for him!

years ago local churches once a month would take turns on a sunday night going to each others church. . we should be able ..**** note should go to each others church with respect .. if baptist went to a pentecostal church or pentecostal went to a baptist church.. i realize the Pentecostals practice tongues .. the baptist do not.. they should be able not use tongues in a joint service and the baptist should respect the pentc.. same with all denoms . i worked with a man that told me his pastor would not step foot into another church to preach that was not independent fundamentalist's baptist . a sad statement i heard from a idfb they called southern baptist liberial

Hello forgiven;

From 1996 to 2005 we attended the Church of God, a non-denominational based out of Andersion, Indiana (not to be be confused with Church of God Pentecostal, Cleveland TN.)

We also held a ministerium once a month where the community Churches of all flavors came together, each month rotated Church locations and the Pastor from each respective Church would preach that Sunday evening. It was actually a blessing, a lot of fun worshiping with different folks.

We were mindful of the AoG, Pentecostals, Lutherans, Baptists, our Church, etc...We just worshiped!

2 examples that show to us how to practice love and unity would be that Dr Macarthur and Dr Sproul have really big differences in certain theology, but loved each other, and dr J vernon mcgee had a close friend of his that was Pentecostal, and everytime they met, would ask each other if they had repented about how they viewed tongues, joked, and moved on together

While ib college, the Pastor of the local AOG would switch pulpits for 1 sunday with a Black pastor friend of his, and all that he would say is that he brough "sound doctrine" to their church, while his pastor friend brought over 'fervant worship"
