1 Kings 5:10-12

1 Kings 5:10-12 King James Version (KJV)

10 So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

Easy English Bible

10 So Hiram supplied Solomon with all the cedar wood and pine wood that (Solomon) wanted. 11 Then Solomon supplied Hiram with 20 000 cors (4.4 million litres or 1.1 million gallons) of wheat as food for his palace. He also (supplied) 20 cors (4400 litres or 1100 gallons) of olive oil. Solomon sent this every year to Hiram. 12 And the LORD gave wisdom to Solomon, as (the LORD) had promised to him. Also, there was no war between Hiram and Solomon. They agreed that they would not fight.

10 This was needed to build the temple Solomon did not just want any wood, trees in Israel don’t grow big due to the weather. The trees to build the temple needed to be big, also bigger trees often times survive storms; this would have made the temple last thru any weather.

11 Solomon did not give him money or gold not everyone at that time used money or gold but exchanged goods which are what they did they bartered. Gold in a place where it was not used for money was worthless but food is used everywhere and because of that it always holds value.

12 There was a cooperation between the two they were now not only at peace but allies, Solomon would have went to war with him and because God spared Solomon war this man’s kingdom would have peace as well. Solomon’s wisdom was shown by using an ally not for his own wants but to aid in the building of the temple, this showed at this time Solomon put God first.

'So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees
according to all his desire.
And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household,
and twenty measures of pure oil:
thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as He promised him:
and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon;
and they two made a league together.'

'The building of the Temple as God's dwelling-place and throne, was an earnest of the fulfilment of the promise, yet to be realized, of the establishment of Jehovah's house and government in the millennial earth; and just as the willing Gentiles were at Solomon's disposition, and helped joyfully to further his designs, so will they be at the disposition of the Greater than Solomon, and will, with gladness, serve Him.'
