Global Religion: Global Partnerships. (2) Civil Society.
Civil Society groups have committed to the Earth Charter and the SDG`s (Sustainable Development Goals). Today thousands of organizations are adopting and implementing the Earth Charter with the SDG`s (Goals). Let’s look at how this is being worked out.
Goal 16: Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies.
People should be free of fear from all forms of violence and feel safe as they go about their lives whatever their ethnicity, faith or sexual orientation. `
Governments, civil society and communities are directed to work together to strengthen the rule of law promoting human rights and always ensuring inclusive participation. In the area of `human rights` people in society need `to feel safe as they go about their lives.` Aggression and violence is not to be tolerated.
Areas in society include schools, medical facilities, shops, gyms, sporting facilities, churches, charities, etc. There is a factsheet for groups to see what is considered Violence and Aggression plus how to identify these and seek to control them. Examples-
Some of the Verbal and nonverbal Indicators that give signs of aggression.
In a local nursing home, the police were called in because a person was seen to be `threatening. ` The person was speaking out about their mother’s needs she perceived wasn’t being met. She acted aggressively by voicing her demands.
Then in a nearby church member meeting the minister called the police because of a perceived threat. A member was asking questions regarding finance insisting the information be presented. He was escorted off the property and warned by the police.
Any `voice` in opposition to the leadership of the organization is seen to be threatening and thus a `form of violence.` This will not be tolerated but dealt with by the law.
Society now is relying upon the Law to deal with any opposition, however, in the Body of Christ, we are to show God`s grace where something can be worked out through mature counsel by the Holy Spirit.
`Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? ` (1 Cor. 6: 1)
