1Chr 10:11-14

1 Chronicles 10:11-14King James Version (KJV)

11 And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

12 They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against theLord, even against the word of theLord, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

14 And enquired not of theLord: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

The men from Jabesh-Gilead bury the dead bodies of Saul and his sons

11 Someone told all the people in Jabesh-Gilead about what the Philistines had done to Saul. 12 So, all the brave men from Jabesh went. They took the dead bodies of Saul and his sons. They brought the bodies to Jabesh and they buried the bones under the large tree there. Then the people in Jabesh refused food. They did not eat for 7 days.

Why Saul died
13 Saul died because of his sin against the LORD. He did not obey the LORD. Saul wanted to speak to a dead person. He even visited a woman who used bad spirits. He wanted to know what he should do. 14 He should have asked the LORD but he did not ask the LORD. So, the LORD caused his death and the LORD gave the kingdom to Jesse’s son, David.

11 The news spread this was sad news for Israel but was good news for the Philistines.

12 They recaptured the body of Saul and got his sons bodies so they could bury them, this may have not been done right away because the Philistines had Saul’s body. This is shown it may not have been right away because they bury the bones under the tree, they mourn after they bury the bones of the royal family. We are to mourn death, we have to move on though, this period of mourning that is all that was done mourning, seven days were set apart for it that does not mean that were not sadden afterwards, they just had to go on with their lives in even though their king was dead.

13 Saul went to a witch woman, someone who talked to dead spirits so that he could hear from Samuel, the truth is if Saul was willing to listen to God’s word then God would have sent him a prophet to tell Saul. Saul turned away from the Lord over time starting with his jealousy for David.

14 David was to be the next king this was God’s plan and was set to action before Saul’s death. God has a plan and gives us a hope for tomorrow if we look to Him.
