8. Global Religion: Global Goals.

Global Religion: Global Goals.

The Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations System. It advances the four dimensions of sustainable development –

  • Economic, Social, Environmental and Peace.
The EcoSoc Council and its various activities is the central platform coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. These goals translate commitments into real changes in people`s lives.

These goals are called the `Sustainable Development Goals,` (SDG`s). Officially known as `Transforming our World` and popularly known as `The Future we want.` They identify the four dimensions as part of a global vision for sustainable development –

  • inclusive Social (religious) development, (through moral values)
  • inclusive Economic Development.
  • Environmental Sustainability.
  • Peace and Security (Safety).
God`s word says, `Walk not in the Counsel of the ungodly.` (Ps. 1: 1)

These SDG`s (Sustainable Development Goals) cover every aspect of people`s lives from water, food, education, health and business to finance and governance. They declare a `New Relationship` between people and nature is needed as Climate Change and Biodiversity loss threatens progress.

Today, thousands of organizations (including Churches) are adopting and implementing these goals.

`A common destiny beckons us to seek a new beginning….this requires a change of mind and heart…` (from the Earth Charter)

Who will you give your `mind and heart` (allegiance) to?

Let’s look closer to see how these goals are being implemented through partnerships.
