A Blessing in Disguise

'Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’ “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests. “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”'

Matthew 22:1-14

The king in this parable represents God. The wedding banquet represents Heaven. God invited the Jews all to come, but they ignored His invitations and did not come. They also mistreated and killed His messengers as well as Jesus who was prophesied by their prophets as the Messiah, but the did not listen. Therefore, God sent Jesus to make a way for everyone to be invited to Heaven through believing in God’s own son, receiving the free gift of salvation, and repenting from their sins. Their rejection opened up the way for many more to accept His invitations!! This reminds me that rejections can be a blessing in disguise because it frees us up for the many who will accept and love us!! God used that unfortunate situation for the greatest good of all, that everyone of us could have a relationship with the LORD and go to Heaven! Hallelujah!! God can bring good out of anything, and it usually turns out to be so much better!!! Thank You Jesus!!!! Wooooooo!!!!!!

'Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?” But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away. '

They were trying to trip Jesus up, but He cannot be tricked. It is biblical to obey the laws of the government and one of those is to pay our taxes.

'Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” '

Matthew 22:34-40

We are to love the Lord above all and trust in Him more than anyone or anything in this world, including ourselves. When we do that, everything else will fall into place and He will help us to obey His commands.

'While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” “The son of David,” they replied. He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says, “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.” ’ If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.'

I love this part, “Non one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask Him anymore questions.” Amen!!! That’s awesome!!! The Lord is richest in wisdom. No one even comes close!!!!

Hello Lovekr07;

I used to wonder about the man who attended without wedding clothes, what does this mean and why did this upset God?

Though the man was invited, he came but his appearance was not so much the clothing but the King's discernment of the man's heart. He wanted to enjoy the banquet but his heart was not there for the King or His Son.

When it comes to any gathering for Christ we must really think about the invitation from God. When I don't feel like dressing for the banquet what is stopping me from getting on my knees and laying my confessional attitude at His feet?

God is faithful and can change our disposition to bringing Him glory. That becomes our honor to Christ.

Isaiah 61:10 KJV
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

In a word Mt 22 is speaking of our imputed righteousness we freely have through faith in Jesus Christ.

Revelation 7:13-14 KJV
And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? [14] And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Amen! Good word! Thank You! To add to that, if one's heart is not in it, he/she is not willing to properly prepare. Efforts are a good measure of where our hearts are.
