Amplified Study Bible?

Hello Hopefull;

I also have an Amplified Bible given to me in 1995. During our Bible studies when it was my turn to read everyone had no idea what I was reading because of the expanded verses. lol! I rotate translations each year and in 2023 I'm actually going to use the AMP.

Hopefull, do you have this translation and do you enjoy reading it?

God bless you and your family, brother.

The AMP Study Bible covers about 1/2 of the Bible verses giving a short paragraph on each.
Personally, I prefer a more extensive study bible like the ESV Study Bible. I don't mind the AMP translation as it helps getting the gist of some otherwise obscure verses.

I looked inside it at christianbooks and decided I wanted one. Looks like it might be of help. I like my KJV study bible but I think the Amplified might help understand some of the tougher verses and help dig a bit deeper overall.

The Amplified biggest danger is that one can read it and start to think that their additional wordage is actuall scriptures, as it is basically them interpreting the bible and given what they think it means!
If you like the Kjv, have you ever tried a Nkjv in a good study bible instead?

What I liked about it was the definitions in hebrew and greek of some words readily available within the passage or commentary.

Hello Hopefull;

Keep in mind the good advice and suggestions of the other posters.

If you feel led to invest in the AMP, it's an acceptable translation for your study and personal growth.

God bless you, brother.

No
I've looked at one but its confusing, for me its just easier if I read the KJV and have a dictionary handy or , if reading AMP style, a thesaurus!

Plus, having all those extra word options just makes the AMP bible a whole lot thicker.

Biggest fault with it is that at times more like a commentary on the passage, which may or may not be right!

Thank you for the replies. It looks as if it would be of help to me. I like my KJV but sometimes Pauls writings are hard for me to grasp.

Are you kidding? Even Peter found Paul difficult to understand at times:

2 Peter 3:14-16

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

15 And account [that] the longsuffering of our Lord [is] salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

16 As also in all [his] epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as [they do] also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

So, you're not alone. It takes time to understand the depths of what Paul wrote, and different versions aren't necessarily going to be the only means by which you glean understanding. You have the Ultimate Teacher, though, who can show to you what you need to understand in it all. Simply read and believe what is written by John:

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
