Bah humbug!

“Ba humbug”

IT’S CHRISTMAS !!!
bah humbug…
Time to put up the tree,
Deck the halls
Kill the turkey
Get Santa out of storage
light up the street!

Bah humbug!
A waste of electricity
If you ask me,
What’s the poor turkey done to you?

I see three ships,
White Christmas?
How am I going to survive the next twelve days?
Robins on cards
Why?
Ba humbug
Have they’ve not been around all year?

Mistletoe and wine
Sherry trifle, mince pies…
Ba humbug,
Give me meat pies!

Told I’ve got to go Christmas shopping
Don’t need socks
And what do I do with hankies
Ba humbug…

What’s this all to do with
Jesus?
Celebrating His birth?
Seeing again the promise
that the child in a manger
would one day the Saviour
of the earth be…

Can’t do with the hassle
Can’t do with all the fuss,
What the world has Bah humbug!
Into an excuse for a party
Instead of a celebration of Jesu’s birth

Cos when you take down the tinsel
When the the flashing lights
have been turned off,
When Santa has been put back on his box
And the grease paint’s been wiped off…

You weren’t there…

Hello Alan;

I get you, mate. Ah, the art of poetry. While reading thy poem, a song crossed my mind. As Jesus is our gateway and dwelling place, the same goes for the place the songwriter loves, the Mersey.

Ferry Cross The Mersey
Life goes on day after day
Hearts torn in every way
So, ferry cross the Mersey
'Cause this land's the place I love
And here I'll stay
People they rush everywhere
Each with their own secret care
So, ferry cross the Mersey
And always take me there
The place I love
People around every corner
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is, boy
We'll never turn you away
So I'll continue to say
Here I always will stay
So ferry, cross the Mersey
'Cause this land's the place I love
And here I'll stay
And here I'll stay
Here I'll stay
