Being son's and daughters

How does the believer "be to me a son?" When a believer reciprocates the love that comes from the father back to the father in the same manner and quality it was received it is being a son or daughter to the father.
When the son learns to rest in the same rest in which our father rest then he or she is being a son to the father.
When the believer receives the peace that comes from the father and is at peace with him or herself and with the father this is being a son to him.
When our father sees his sons at rest in the peace that he has given them then the sons are being sons to the father. To reiterate: all that our father wants is for his sons to be sons to him.

If they attempt to be something other then sons to him the result will be heart rendering to our father to say the least.
This is why believers can never be a "prophets" to others and please him who is father. Our father has no pleasure in prophets but His pleasure is only in His sons.

Born-again believers can never function in the capacity of a "priest" because this is something much less than being to him a son. Believers can never be a "king" to others for him who is Father because he only wants sons who are " The brightness of his glory, and express image of his person, Hebrews 1:3.
When he looks at his son's whom he birthed through "Christ in you" he does not want to see how well his sons function as prophets, priests, Kings, etc.
All he wants is to see how they function as sons to Him.

Hi Nobleman,

Great topic - sonship. I would say that being a son, is a relationship rather than a function. It is the most wonderful relationship ever imaginable, to be a son of the Father, through Jesus Christ.

Blessings, Marilyn.

''... So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit,
if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ,
he is none of His.
And if Christ be in you,
the body is dead because of sin;
but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
But if the Spirit of Him
That raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you,
He That raised up Christ from the dead
shall also quicken your mortal bodies
by His Spirit That dwelleth in you.
Therefore, brethren, we are deptors,
not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
For if ye live after the flesh,
ye shall die :
but if ye through the Spirit
do mortify ('reckon as dead '- Romans 6:11) the deeds of the body,
ye shall live.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,
they are the sons of God..

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear;
but ye have received the Spirit of adoption,
whereby we cry, "Abba, Father."
(Romans 8:8-15)

Amazing grace!
Praise God!

Hello @ Noblemen,

The greatest example we have of the relation of Father and Son is is between The Lord Jesus Christ and His Heavenly Father, isn't it? He is the only example. For this relationship, 'in spirit', is unique, isn't it? It transcends anything we can know, or experience, in the flesh, doesn't it? It is a knowing: a rest from all striving, a sure and abiding confidence that He is; and that we are, 'in Christ', 'one' - with Him.

Blessed assurance!

'Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ ... ... '
' ... He hath chosen us in Him ... ... having pre-destinated us
unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ - to - Himself.
according to the good pleasure of His will,
To the praise of the glory of His grace,
wherein He hath made us accepted - in The Beloved'
(Ephesians 1:3a, 4a, 5)

Praise God!

Hi Noblemen,

You do not mean that we are not to endeavour to serve Him in any capacity, do you?

The Church which is His Body are just called to be 'Sons'. It is Israel, as a redeemed nation, who are called to serve Him as priests and kings.

Prophecy, along with the other gifts, were the portion of believers during the Acts period, and were transient.

The 'Sonship' relationship is something Divinely appointed, sure and constant.

Praise God!

Yes but the greatest of these is being a son. I don't know if you have noticed but the gifts of edification and the foolery of today has not matured the Saints.
So be the greatest thing you can be to the Father and that is a son with knowledge.
I touched on the schoolhouse and the schoolhouse will prove this out, our Father wants his children to grow in grace and knowledge and understanding of who they are, the bonafide offspring of God the father by a birthing.
Living and expressing the only life there is, Christ our life. "He that has the Son has life because life is in the Son."
