Bible Versions

Our Bible students study the King James Version along with a Strong's Complete Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible and are allowed to use the New Living Translation (NLT) as a daily reading Bible. The NLT has been in publication since 1996 and parallels the text of the KJV very well and while it is not flawless, it is more correct than most other versions that have shown up since the mid 1800's.

The Living bible is much different that the NLT. It is a paraphrase bible and not to well done.

It is a little bland so to speak . It was written on an 8th grade reading level for ease of comprehension.

Hey Whirlwind, I am sorry you are in the middle of a storm:rolleyes:, a play on words hmmmm:rolleyes:, ---but anyway ---you can use your new toy as a reference tool?????? and stick with your KJV -----as the NIV, might act to amplify a passage here or there you may look at diferently?????

I like the Interlinear hebrew/Greek/English Bible, on Sovereign Grace Publishers, ISBN 1-878442-82-1, which is based on the recieved text, ( with majority text notes in the back ---which I don't use too much at all :D), and it numbers all the original language words to the strongs numbering system ----and contains two litteral translations, one in the margins, and the other beneath the original language words.

And with the majority notes, it presents both the Alexandrian, and Byzantine text base as a reference Bible in it's totality. But I prefer the longer versions of 1 John 5:7, and such which it contains from the Authorized version/Recieved Text ---Byzantine Textbase ( which is the main Interlinear text provided -so You don't have to dig thru notes in the back, etc.., )!!!!!!!!!!:D

I use it ---to correct into My NASB Ryrie study Bible, and the ESV Reformation Study Bible, etc.., as they are good "Litteral" translations to begin with!!!!!!!!!!

I prefer "Litteral," as opposed to "Dynamic Equivalence," type of Translations ---unless one also owns an Amplified Bible, for a reference work, ( I like checking the Amplified )

But I recomend more than one of the good study Bibles out there, such as the Ryrie Study Bible, the Reformation Study Bible, Zondervan Study Bible, etc.., ---to compare their various perspectives,

But nothing beats a few good study Bibles, with all the "Shiny Words," in their particular "Study" perspective!!!!!

And You can yell at the study notes You disagree with ---just don't let anyone see You yell at Your Bible:D

LOL - thanks, Mike.:D

I'm going to travel back to Bend (where my friend got this present for me) and ask the lady if she'll trade it for a KJV. I tried reading the NIV electronic bible last night...and it just seems so...what's the word? Relaxed? Flexible?

There's also some phrases that I know well. I came across a few of them while reading on my electronic bible; they seemed to have a different meaning. So I went back to my paper-bible, KJV and compared. The two seemed to have a completely different meaning!

NIV seems like it's a remake of an oldie that should have been left alone. Know what I mean? Like when Redbone's Come And Get Your Love was remade by Real McCoy. I slapped myself on the forehead and said: "Oh, why couldn't they have just left this one alone?"

I've snuggled my foot down into this shoe for so long...buying a new pair right now makes my foot feel so different.

'less, of course, someone out there has a KJV electronic bible they want to trade for a NIV?

FORGOT: I was reading it last night and praying for understanding on this issue...no kidding, my electronic bible just shut off! It reset itself, erasing all of my bookmarks and such. I'll take this as a sign that it's okay to take it back and trade it (he he he). You might not want to trade now, huh?

Ephesians 1:1-23 (Amplified Bible)

Ephesians 1

1PAUL, AN apostle (special messenger) of Christ Jesus (the Messiah), by the divine will (the purpose and the choice of God) to the saints (the consecrated, set-apart ones) [a]at Ephesus who are also faithful and loyal and steadfast in Christ Jesus:
2May grace (God's unmerited favor) and spiritual peace [which means peace with God and harmony, unity, and undisturbedness] be yours from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3May blessing (praise, laudation, and eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm!
4Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love.
5For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will [[b]because it pleased Him and was His kind intent]--
6[So that we might be] to the praise and the commendation of His glorious grace (favor and mercy), which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
7In Him we have redemption (deliverance and salvation) through His blood, the remission (forgiveness) of our offenses (shortcomings and trespasses), in accordance with the riches and the generosity of His gracious favor,
8Which He lavished upon us in every kind of wisdom and understanding (practical insight and prudence),
9Making known to us the mystery (secret) of His will (of His plan, of His purpose). [And it is this:] In accordance with His good pleasure (His merciful intention) which He had previously purposed and set forth in [c]Him,
10[He planned] for the maturity of the times and the climax of the ages to unify all things and head them up and consummate them in Christ, [both] things in heaven and things on the earth.
11In Him we also were made [God's] heritage (portion) and we obtained an inheritance; for we had been foreordained (chosen and appointed beforehand) in accordance with His purpose, Who works out everything in agreement with the counsel and design of His [own] will,
12So that we who first hoped in Christ [who first put our confidence in Him have been destined and appointed to] live for the praise of His glory!
13In Him you also who have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings (Gospel) of your salvation, and have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the seal of the long-promised Holy Spirit.
14That [Spirit] is the guarantee of our inheritance [the firstfruits, the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage], in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring [complete] possession of it--to the praise of His glory.
15For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints (the people of God),
16I do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers.
17[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him,
18By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones),
19And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength,
20Which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His [own] right hand in the heavenly [places],
21Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named [above every title that can be conferred], not only in this age and in this world, but also in the age and the world which are to come.
22And He has put all things under His feet and has appointed Him the universal and supreme Head of the church [a headship exercised throughout the church],(A)
23Which is His body, the fullness of Him Who fills all in all [for in that body lives the full measure of Him Who makes everything complete, and Who fills everything everywhere with Himself].

I can always use another good bible program thanks Ken!

The motive is all important

Most any Bible will do, when one's motive for reading God's instruction book is the right motive: earnestly seeking to become the best Christian possible, not for one's own spiritual welfare, but to be a role-model for other disciples of Christ. By our lives, we are/should be showing the world what Christ is like. What a tremendous responsibility! Remember, 'We become like those we gaze at.' e-Sword Rocks! I've got approx 20 versions. I use them all for one reason or another. But my go to Bible is the KJV +, or with Strongs numbers. The beauty of e-Sword is I just place my mouse over a Strongs number and viola' there in a little pop window is the definition of the Hebrew or Greek. I LOVE it!

Also IMHO I sincerly believe that Satan has woven his way into both some Bible translations and some commentaries. But if you don't arm yourself with what the enemy creates and where he is coming from then I'm in a sense unable to counter punch. Please no offense meant that's just my humble opinion.

Again e-Sword rocks big time!!!!:D
