Christ the Conqueror: Part 4. Christ Overcoming Death.

Christ Suffered and Died

Overcoming Satan and the World System were only trials along the way, for it was death that Christ needed to defeat, for man to be set free.

`Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death he might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

And release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.` (Heb. 2: 14 & 15)

Although, Satan and the rulers of Israel plotted to kill Jesus, it was He Himself who lay down His own life for the sin of mankind.

`I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself, and I have power to take it again.` (John 10: 17 & 18)

Jesus humbled Himself, obedient to the Father, even to the point of dying on a cross.

`He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. ` (Phil. 2: 8)

The cross was the very center of the struggle with the enemy, where the fight of eternity was fought and the issue determined.

`by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of the cross.` (Col. 1: 20)

Fiendish forces with all their satanic strategies were marshalled against the man Christ Jesus. The Devil and his dragoons were determined to destroy the light of the knowledge of the glory of God that shone from the face of Jesus Christ.

What a spectacle of sorrowful suffering Christ became. How astounding that He should stoop so low and allow Himself to be made sin for us. Amid inhuman insult of hoarse laughter and coarse laughter, the soldiers mocked His royal claim. No ridicule more rude, no scorn more scorching, or contempt more cruel was ever hurled at anyone.

`If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.` (Matt. 27: 40)

The terrific attack was terrible in the extreme, but as the gloom of dense darkness departed, the Conqueror`s loud clear cry of victory rang out,

`It is finished.` (Matt. 19: 30)

Christ Rose from the Dead and Ascended to the Highest.

Under every possible cruelty Christ changed a dishonoured death into a dignified diadem of higher life, and by the steps of a painful crucifixion at the rough hands of haughty men, He ascended to a preeminent coronation at the right hand of the highest majesty in the heaven of heavens.

`God…..raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet.` (Eph. 1: 20 – 22)

If Satan had known God`s plan through His Son`s death he would not have had Him crucified.

`we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden mystery which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.` (1 Cor. 2: 7 & 8)

But Christ rose from the dead and disarmed Satan and his demons, taking the `keys` of hell and of death.

`having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.` (Col. 2: 15)

`Behold, I am alive forevermore….And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.` (Rev. 1: 18)

God the Father honoured and exalted His Son to the highest place and everyone will confess that He is Lord.

`God also has highly exalted Him and given Him a name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. ` (Phil. 2: 9 & 10)
