I believe this chapter (Daniel 7) holds the key to what we see happening in our world today. Now we can see that the world stage has three great power blocs –

  1. The British Commonwealth & America.

  2. The Russian Federation.

  3. The European Union.
These great power blocs are shown to us, I believe, not only in order of their emerging, but also interesting details specific to each one.

What are your thoughts?

I believe it doesn't really matter if we can find scriptures that line up with what is going on.

We see, hear and feel greater darkness is upon the earth and great evil is what it will birth.

I reiterate you're taking a snapshot of today and applying it to prophecy. You're also looking at all of this through the eyes of the West. In the Middle East, Turkey is the leopard, Iran the bear, Babylon (Mesopatamia) is the lion with wings. Daniel 2 and 7 are the same.

1. The Egyptian Empire --- 1 horn plucked by Assyrian
2. The Assyrian Empire --- 1 horn plucked by Babylonian
3. The Babylonian Empire --- 1 horn plucked by the Persian
4. The Persian Empire --- 1 horn plucked by the Grecian
5. The Grecian Empire --- 4 horns plucked by the Roman
6. The Roman Empire --- 1 plucked by the Islamic
7. The Islamic Empire --- 1 horn plucked by the West

That's history.

The 8th (a revival of the 7th - Islam) and 11th horn (antichrist) to be plucked by Jesus.

Forget the US or the EU, they don't want Jerusalem. Only Islam wants it so the Jews can't! Rome ruled over Israel for only 213 years. Islam ruled over the land of Israel for ~1700 years! Why are they not on anyone's list? It's a 400 year old private interpretation against the popes of Rome. If Rome is remotely involved with the end times it might and only might be the false prophet. :)

Thank you for your thoughts. I also don`t believe in just finding scriptures to try & back up every event that is happening in our world. However I do believe in studying God`s word to see what He would have us to know. Hope you`ll continue to discuss.

So to begin – Daniel 7.

Many people have thought this chapter mainly dealt with past kingdoms, however I was taught differently & thought that people would like to hear the contemporary view as well. That is, that the 4 beasts are great power blocs leading up to the time of the Lord`s return to judge the nations & deliver Israel.

These are the reasons why I believe these 4 beasts, great power blocs are not historic but contemporary to us.

1. Contemporary.

When Daniel had this vision, Babylon was already a world power. Thus these lesser kingdoms, powers, which God`s word said `shall arise,` were yet to come in the future.

`These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.` (Dan. 7: 17)


2. Contemporaneous.

Each of these great powers are operating at the same time, for the final beast becomes very powerful & `devours & tramples` down the other beast powers.

`After this I saw in the night visions, & behold a fourth beast, dreadful & terrible, & exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces & trampling the residue with its feet.` (Dan. 7: 7)

We also see that after the 4th beast is dealt with by the Lord, the other 3 great powers have their authority taken away but they continue for a short time.

`I watched till the (fourth) beast was slain, & its body destroyed & given to the burning flame. As for the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season & a time.` (Dan. 7: 11 & 12)


Thus I see that these great power blocs not only operate at the same time, but are in the time when the Lord comes to judge them.

FOUR SUPER POWERS

In Daniel`s vision (Ch.7) he saw 4 winds of heaven stirring up the Great Sea. These are 4 spirits of the heavens, I believe, which go forth & operate in the realm of the predominant ruling powers of the world.

`Daniel spoke saying, “I saw in my vision by night, & behold, The four winds (spirits) of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea. And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other.”` (Dan. 7: 2 & 3)

Hebrew word `Rauwach,` is spirit, wind.

From these, (I believe) emerge the 4 Super Powers arising in the world today. Three have arisen & one is still to have its full manifestation.

`These great beasts, which are four, are four kings which shall arise out of the earth.` (Dan. 7: 17 K.J.)


These 4 power blocs or Confederacies all have their own sphere of political power. As we study each one it becomes quite clear who they are & what area they control.
Then as we watch & study world events we will see how these `main players,` are putting together their global plan. Yet, we can be assured that God is overall, He has foretold these events in His word & He has the Time Frame for the Judgement of the nations.

  1. The LION with EAGLE`S WINGS – The British Commonwealth & America.


    `The first (beast) was like a lion, & had eagle`s wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man`s heart was given to it.` (Dan. 7: 4)
Daniel recorded: `The first was like a lion & had wings like an eagle.` (Dan. 7:4)

O.Neubecker, Director of the `International Academy of heraldry,` & the foremost authority in this field, explains –
`The appearance of a lion as a heraldic beast by no means indicates that it forms part of the native fauna of that country; its use comes from the significance attributed to it. The lion is the symbol of Royal Sovereignty & the eagle the symbol of Imperial Power.`

In combination we have the initial clue to the identity of this first contemporary super-power to emerge. A sovereign Monarchy which exercised imperialistic power over a substantial area of the world. i.e. A empire ruled by a monarch.


Further revelation was given to Daniel. `As I looked its wings were plucked off.` (Dan. 7: 4)

There is a fascinating double reference in this –
  1. The empire lost its capacity for imperialistic expansion.

  2. Part of the empire became a separate nation with the eagle as its emblem.
`It was made to stand on two feet like a man; & the spirit of man was given to it.` (Dan.7: 4)

Here is transformation. Until now the outlook & operation had been that of a powerful beast, imperialistically conquering, dominating & colonising. Suddenly there is a remarkable change to the higer qualities of the spirit of man. In political language, co-existing in freedom, peace & equality with its former dominions. An empire becomes a Commonwealth of Nations.

H.M. Queen Elizabeth II as Head of the Commonwealth, broadcasted –

`The Commonwealth bears no resemblance to the empires of the past. It is an entirely new conception built on the highest qualities of the Spirit of Man: Friendship, loyalty & the desire for freedom & peace.`

I submit that this first super-power to emerge was the Great British Empire, currently, of course the British Commonwealth of Nations. The American Eagle, who also originally came from the mother lion will continue to be a dominant & integral part of this great confederacy.

2. The BEAR – The Russian Confederacy.

`And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, & had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: “Arise, devour much flesh!”` (Dan. 7: 5)

The bear was the national symbol of the Soviets. They were the next super power to arise in the world. They were called the U.S.S.R. – the United States of Soviet Russia.

It certainly `devoured` country after country, incorporating them into one monolithic dominion, behind the ` iron curtain.` In 1991 there was an uprising in the U.S.S.R. & the former Soviet peoples then separated into their different countries. This change was called by the Russians as `Perestroika,` meaning restructuring. Elections are held but they are not `free,` as each country still retains the same philosophy, (Communism) ideology & militaristic ambitions.

The Russian Republic is the dominant force in the Confederacy of nations from the Slovak countries of Eastern Europe to the various Republics along Russia`s southern border.

The three ribs between its teeth, are the nations of – Iran (Persia), Libya & Ethiopia, (Ez. 38: 5). These nations are outside the Russian Federation but will go with them to attack Israel. The prophet Ezekiel gives the details of that war.

Interesting, I always have thought of Russia as the bear, but yet never had thought of each description to that extent. I believe Gods word has so many hidden meanings. For example our bodies to plain sight we are just a body yet science has proven that everything down to our DNA has intricate hidden meaning and purpose. So what we might think is one thing can mean so much more! Have you ever done a study on Daniel 2? I've always thought that their is more prophecy there also then most scholars believe.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. And yes I believe, by the Holy Spirit there is much He will open up to the Body of Christ in these `last days,` so we can come to the unity of the faith - understanding Christ`s purposes for not only the Body of Christ but also for Israel & the nations.

And I have done a study on Daniel 2, & that would be a good one to do also. probably would have been better to start with that.

3. LEOPARD – The European Union.

`After this I looked, & there was another (beast), like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast had four heads, & dominion was given to it.` (Dan. 7: 6)

The Leopard symbol has a direct connection to Europe, as they were used on their banners & shields in wars.

`The beast also had four heads,.... (Dan. 7: 6)

The four heads on this beast denote a multiplicity of authority or government who are united in a common purpose. Six countries of Europe agreed to a commercial unity of purpose in a common market. However at the time of inauguration, three of these countries, combined their representation & voting, into one entity called `Benelux.` 4 Heads - France, Germany, Italy & Benelux - (Belgium, Netherlands & Luxembourg)


`Dominion was given to it.` (Dan. 7: 6)

Each of the foundation countries were defeated & powerless at the conclusion of World War 2. However authority as independent nations was granted by favour of the Allies.

Many countries have joined the European Union, economically, over the years. Then the latest crisis will enable the European central government to have Political control over all its nation states. thus becoming the United States of Europe.

4. The TERRIFING BEAST.

`After this I saw in the night visions, & behold a fourth beast dreadful & terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, & trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, & it had ten horns.

I was considering the horns, & there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, & a mouth speaking pompous words. (Dan. 7: 7 & 8)


This fourth beast so arrested & impressed Daniel that he devoted more detail to it, than all the previous creatures put together.

`....a fourth beast, dreadful & terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, & trampling the residue with its feet.` (Dan. 7: 7)


There was no resemblance, in this instance, to any specific emblematic animal. It was completely diverse to all its predecessors. A ferocious formidable beast, it was absolutely awesome in its unmitigated ruthlessness, savage brutality, & universal power. What it could not assimilate, it absolutely crushed.


`...it had ten horns.` (Dan. 7: 7)

Horns, in Biblical symbology, invariably denote political power, authority & dominion. Subsequently this is confirmed precisely & unambiguously.

`The ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom.` (Dan. 7: 24)


These ten kings are obviously contemporaneous & affiliated. They consolidate, control, & govern an immense confederacy of nations, strong & powerful, which conquers & subdues country after country. Eventually it dominates the whole world.


It is inconceivable not to be impressed as to the exact equivalent here to the feet & the toes of the image seen by King Nebuchadnezzar (Dan. 2: 41 – 44) . Each represented a confederacy incorporated in the very last days of this age, & each governed simultaneously by a cabal of exactly ten kings. Obviously they are one & the same.

WORLD HISTORY IN IMAGERY.

King Nebuchadnezzar had a vision of a characteristic eastern human figure standing erect on the plain of Babylon. Attention was particularly directed & focused on five distinctly defined separate metaphorical components. (Dan. 2: 31 – 35)

The interpretation thereof depicted the projected course of history in one broad sweep. It delineated & surveyed four kingdoms with world authority & power, that would succeed each other in strict chronological order from that specific time-slot until the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. Secular history records a precise & complete fulfilment.


FOCUS ON THE FEET.

The greatest emphasis & the most extensive description, however, was on the feet & toes of the image. This is the fifth power which was predicted to hold world dominion in the time-slot when God terminates the world systems. In effect Daniel was specifically directed to minutely focus on the feet & toes of the gigantic figure & to completely disregard the intervening two thousand years.


PRIORITY MIDDLE EAST.

Focus on the feet: `There stood before you a large statue.` (Dan. 2: 31)

It is obvious that the whole image was standing on these feet in the immediate vicinity of King Nebuchadnezzar. Elemenatary & necessary, of course – yet of immense importance. The feet were thus firmly centred in the Middle East ie. before the King of Babylon. In fact the centre of gravity for each of the delineated sections of the image was directly over the same place.

A significant metaphoric illustration which indicated that, as with each of its predecessors, the centre of authority of this final confederacy, must be located in, & operate from the Middle East. It is an established & undeniable fact that, right from the time of the demise of the Roman Empire, the Middle East has been the focal political & religious centre of the Moslem world.

The prophetic calendar has been programmed for centuries. The Middle East has returned to the centre of the international stage in the precise time-slot predicted.

Increasing tensions & developments in that area have made it conspicuously obvious that the world finds itself confronting the consequences of the global march of Islam. The most sadistic & formidable confederacy ever encountered, is emerging from the obscurity, frustration & economic deprivation of centuries. Their complete ruthlessness is shockingly & vividly demonstrated throughout the world.


ISLAMIC FUNDAMENTALISM.

The "Wall Street Journal" in the timely article reported:-

"Islamic Fundamentalism stretches from Morocco to Indonesia and reaches far south into Black Africa. There are currently more than one billion followers of Islam. It has been the fastest growing force from the last decade. Every day, around the world, at least one thousand men and women perform the basic ceremony for admission to this resurgent movement. This is not confined to traditional Moslem areas, but in sophisticated western countries like Australia."


It is already the second largest religion in America, Europe and Australia.

According to documents obtained by "Newsweek": -

"The oil-rich Moslem republics of the former Soviet Union with a potential population of sixty million people have strongly indicated their desire to amalgamate with their Islamic brotherhood across their borders in the Middle East. The Western Nations have expressed grave concern that they might conceivably take their proportion of the Soviet Nuclear Arsenal with them. This would, at last, confront the world with the long-dreaded "Islamic Bomb".
