Do You Remember ?

If you do you are old like me .... LOL :smiley100:

Subject: Bring back any memories?

Someone asked the other day, 'What was your favourite 'fast food' when you were growing up?'
[FONT=Comic Sans
MS]'We didn't have fast food when I was growing up,' I informed him.[/FONT]

'All the food was slow.'
'C'mon, seriously.. Where did you eat?'

'It was a place called 'home,'' I explained. !

'Mum cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate, I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.'

By this time, the lad was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.

But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I'd figured his system could have handled it:

Some parents NEVER owned their own house, wore jeans, set foot on a golf course, travelled out of the country or had a credit card.

My parents never drove me to school. I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow).

We didn't have a television in our house until I was 10.
It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at 10 pm, after playing the national anthem and epilogue; it came back on the air at about 6 a.m. and there was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people...

I never had a telephone in my room. The only phone was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line.

Pizzas were not delivered to our home... But milk was.

All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers
--My brother delivered a newspaper, seven days a week. He had to get up at 6AM every morning.

Film stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the films. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or almost anything offensive.

If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren. Just don't blame me if they bust a gut laughing.

Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it?

MEMORIES from a friend:

My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother' s house (she died in December) and hebrought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it... I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.

How many do you remember?

Headlight dip-switches on the floor of the car.

Ignition switches on the dashboard.

Trouser leg clips for bicycles without chain guards.

Soldering irons you heated on a gas burner.
Using hand signals for cars without turn indicators.

Yup .... Have admit it ... I am positively ancient .... remebered all .

What about the telephone that you have to dial by turning the ringer to get the numbers? I liked those phones... They made a nice sound when you dialed a number and the thing went back at the top...

I liked those phones too, you dial a number and wait for it to circle back to the top and then dial another...they were cool...they had a nice ring.

Phil , I liked those phones too . There was a lot of old stuff that I thought was fun . The young people today have missed all this stuff .... where we have been . I also remember the ice man bringing blocks of ice to our house for the ice box .
And I had to scrub th clothes on that wash board . Sometimes my nuckles would get sore.
I also remember the bread man coming and he had a wagon and a horse pulled the wagon so you see now you know how old I am ..... LOL

But i do remember in Kindergarten there was the Lord's prayer, the Jehovah Witnesses would leave the room . or was it for the national anthem? and in grade 1 no more Lord's prayer in school .

Oh, that sounds cool. Makes me wish I was a part of the 50's. 50's had good music too so that would be a plus. But don't worry, 40 is young... Or middle aged... I wouldn't say that is old.

Man!!!! I remember those days!! Believe it or not. I might be a little bit old but I'm still Hot as a chili heheeh. Wow Ma those are very dear memories that you brought up. My Mom did the exact same thing down in California.
With all the technology these days I darn near forgot where I came from. i respect those days dearly in memory and grasp these days in real time. WE ARE OLD SCHOOL!! We learned from books for the most part including "Still learning from the Bible" Hail for OLD SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!! The kids now days, i depend on them to teach me. The roles are reversed to a point till they don't know how to start a fire with sticks or split a wooden match with a hatchet. I got useful info and they have useful info. When we consolidate our learning.......... WE ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TY God for all the teachings and growing together. Amen

Chili splitin a wood match!! i can do it!!!!

Ah...I didn't grow up in the 20th century and earlier, but my grandmother told me so much about it I know everything on that list.

NearertoGod hang out with the cool older folk!! They REALLY can teach you something wonderful, along side God, WE ROCK. We got stories galore that are actually enticing, and we got RAW COURAGE for skills that to this day stand strong. watch this.........you can not be who you are without what we taught back then. It all starts from scratch n scratch came before me. It is the ladder of life and learning.
What we have and what you have, put them together and watch it GROW n Blossom :) I'm serious buddy. Ask Grandpa a few Qs and watch him come to life! Grandma too......don't forget Mom. it is precious history of the family and just plain ol growin up. The learning will never stop, just like time wont stop.
O man this is a good thread that can go on for a long time. I'm out

Chiliman !!
