Don‘t mention that name!

Acts 4:10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.


Acts 4:14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
15But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
16Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
17But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
18And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
21So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.


Why are people so afraid to speak that name? Some may say “God” or another religious founder’s name, but not Jesus. There is fear of man. And also being politically correct.

Verse 14-16 shows they couldn’t deny it was a miracle. But the religious do not want miracles and are jealous of Jesus, which are other reasons. They want to receive the honor but they won’t pay the price to be used of God. They don’t have the power of God, for the power is only in the name of Jesus and they don’t know Him. The religious and many non believers do not believe in miracles. So how can they stop it? Commanding us to stop speaking His name.

There is such power in that name, not in anyone else’s name!

Philippians 2:10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.


Don’t be ashamed of the name of Jesus.


Mark 8:38Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.


We know ‘Christ ’ is not Jesus’ last name, as some think. :smiley90: LOL ! But they DO know who it represents whether they deny it of not. If they didn’t know, there wouldn’t be such a fuss about it. Christ means “anointed”. The Messiah, the "anointed" one, was the one to come who would save the world from their sins. And many want to believe their own religious leader will be the Messiah. Most religions do believe in one who will come some day.

The Messiah, the LORD Jesus Christ, has already come and by the signs of the times, is soon coming again!


Matthew 10:32Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven
33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
 
I don't think a person should be ‘evangelizing’ when they are supposed to be working, or it is taking time away from the company that is paying them to work. But you may have noticed in some work places you can’t mention His name even on your own time, on your break. Employers have called some aside and censored them because someone didn't like them talking about Jesus, OR even that they were OVERHEARD by someone else and they didn’t want to hear that name. Persecution in the work place.

Trying to keep it inside the church doesn't do the world any good. Jesus and the disciples did most of their preaching out in the public
 
Why should the fear of man prevent us from speaking Gods name?

In this generation we can expect persecution for spreading the word of God. Like the martrys that have gone before us, let us not fear.

Salvation is found in no other name than Jesus!
 
I haven’t heard anyone say Merry Christmas or advertising at stores about ‘Christmas‘ and it’s only 2 ½ weeks until Christmas! We know this has been the trend for a couple of years but this year is worse.

I hear them say happy holidays. Usually “ Have a good day” “ Have to nice weekend." And even yesterday, Have a ‘good rest-of-the-weekend.” Whaaaat? It sounded so unnatural and like she was saying such a thing just to avoid the word CHRISTmas?

I was beginning to think they are trying to be the first to say anything so they would not have to reply to what we say. So this last weekend, I purposely said Merry Christmas first just to see what they would say. Two of them did reply Merry Christmas.

Some stores will only let them say it if the customer says it first but others will not permit it at all. Some think this is nick picking. It wouldn’t really matter at all except for the fact that our freedom of speech is being taken away from us more and more all the time.


I don’t like all the commercialization. But that’s what the stores want – but don’t mention that name. So now its happy holidays or seasons greetings. They have the colors, decorations and so forth, but no star or manger. They have X-ed out Christmas. I never did like the word Xmas. Don’t leave Christ out of Christmas.


Another reason,they are afraid of losing business or #2 offending someone who might sue them because they said Merry Christmas to a person who happens to be of some other religion. #3 Some don't want to get fire.

Sure they want our money for ‘Christmas ‘ shopping but don’t mention the word “Christ”. Stores used to even have traditional Christmas scenery, decoration, nativity scenes, etc. Now you can be arrested for having a nativity scene in your own yard in some places.
 
Know what.... if someone at work asks me what I did last weekend I have every right to talk about being at church or how I served the Lord.

Just as much right as the girl or man who says he/she got drunk and went home with a stranger and then says, "I can't believe I did that!!!"

There is a TV commercial for one of the major department stores..i dont remember which one now...but in the commercial they say Merry Christmas..I remember thinking wow they actually said it!
 
Businesses and corporations are worried about one thing, money. It is obvious they put money above the Lord. This is why they hide things that relate to Christmas. It is unfortunate that they feel they need to do this because of potential lawsuits or lose of business.

I find it to be absolutley rediculous that somebody cannot speak the name of Jesus Christ in most places these days. Nobody ever complains when muslims talk about Mohammad or Allah.
 
The last several months I have been hearing more and more how this year there would be even more persecution in speaking the name of Jesus or preaching the truth of His Word. We have been so blessed in American that most take this for granted and think we will never go through any persecution like other countries. That may not be so. It will take much prayer for Christians to stay true to Him when they are told they can't speak or preach in His name; and one day perhaps to even renounce Him.

It's that anti- christ spirit in the world that cannot bear to hear His name. But no wonder, demons tremble at the sound of that name! Their power is broken by the power of Jesus' name

I totally agree with what you said. I try to say "Jesus," but out of habit, I say "God."
"God" is a title. "Jesus" is a name. :)

We know who you mean by "God" but other people could mean someone else besides our God

The " G-d" that you are talking about is always the way that Jewish people write the word . There has to be a meaning why they do that but I have never found out.

We in Canada have been blessed as well but all that is changing as Christians, we are being put on the back burner and all the other religions are being exhonorated. In the news they always talk about this festival or that one from hindu to muslim to all the parades that go on in our city .

But when ever we have a Jesus march or prayer in the city , that is never covered in the news .

People more than ever it is time that we proclaim the power of the name of Jesus cause the time is short and Jesus is coming very soon . We can see it all around as there are earthquakes of larger magnitude, famines , hurricanes, weather changes in countries that never had snow they are having , and unrest in every country . We have to have blinders on not to see it .

Just last week we had an invader into our church dressed in all the Arab attire shouting he had a message from allah . People we got to get our heads from out of the sand . We are coming to difficult times . easy street is gone . Jesus we need you more than ever before.

There were no vowels in the name of God. So it would be difficult to pronounce. Later vowels where given.
They believed the name of God was too holy and sacred to say and they didn't want His name blasphemed. So if they could not say it, it could not be blasphemed.

Not only that, but many times fight against what the church does and promote what other religions do. We are not given equality with others anymore, but our Christian freedoms are being taken away more and more every year.

Praise God He protected all of you! We need to hold your church up in prayer if they are getting that bold there. There have been similiar things happened a few places in the USA too.

Some have been in dangerous situations.

That's right . Praise God He did protect us because who knows what this gentleman had under all that garb . But you see satan does not like it that we are praising the Lord and that the Holy Spirit is so powerful and our Pastor is an annointed pastor who preaches the whole word and does not sugar coat it .

OUr church is on a corner of a busy intersection so I am sure we will have more intrusions . But our God is greater than he who is in the world and He will see us through when we put our trust in Him declaring Him all powerful and mighty to save.
 
What is in a name?

Names are important; they're very important to God. He gave some new names and they meant something about the person. It's important what you call a person.

The angel told Mary his name shall be called Jesus because He shall save His people. That name 'Jesus' = 'salvation' in many ways.

The name of the Lord saves our soul from hell, keeps us safe and sound, saves or rescues us from danger, destruction, heals us or keeps us healthy, gives us a sense of well being.

Sometimes in an emergency we don't have time to pray a long prayer, but in that crucial moment can desperately call out the name JESUS !! And He hears, knows our heart and answers us. Thank the Lord!
