Fellowship with God

Fellowship with God

Once we have settled upon the Bible as the only authoritative inspired message of God, then we can move forward into agreement with God. God has provided a way that we can have fellowship with Him… Jesus is the ONLY true and living way unto the Father! (John 14:6).

Fellowship with God
1. The Sin Problem.
*Sin (violation of God’s Law) Alienates us from God – Isaiah 59:1,2 Isaiah 59:1-2 NLT 1 Listen! The LORD is not too weak to save you, and he is not becoming deaf. He can hear you when you call. 2 But there is a problem -- your sins have cut you off from God. Because of your sin, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.
*The wages of sin is death (separation from God) -- Romans 6:23.
*All accountable people have sinned. –Romans 3:9,23
2. God’s Part.
*Before Creation God Planned to Save us in Christ – Ephesians 1:3,4
*Christ Purchased (redeemed) Believers by His Blood to God –Rev 5:9; 1 Peter 1:18-21
*Purchased Believers (when viewed as a group) are called “the church”, or those in fellowship with God – Eph 1:10,11; Acts 20:28
3. Man’s Part.
*Accepting God’s Gracious Provision By Faith (trust) in Jesus Rom 3:21-26
*This “Faith” is an “Obedient Faith” (Trust) in Jesus – Rom 1:1-5; 16:25,26
*The “Obedient Faith” is from the Heart and finds it’s expression in “the form of Doctrine” (Baptism) –Rom 6:17,18; 6:3-11 Romans 6:17-18 17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form (tupos)* of teaching to which you were entrusted. 18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

(The Greek word for “form” here is ‘tupos.’ Tupos means “mold, pattern.” Paul, in this chapter, Romans 6, speaks to some Christians
And tells them “don’t you know when you were baptized, you were baptized into (eis) his death? THEREFORE we are BURIED WITH HIM by baptism into death….then, you are raised to walk in newness (new birth) of life.
Verses 17,18, still in context of Romans 6, speaks of a “form of doctrine that one obeys from the heart and they are freed from sin and becomes servants of righteousness)

Tupos is used again in Heb 8:5 where Moses is told to build the tabernacle “…according to a pattern” (tupos).
The bible is full of patterns. What Paul taught in one church, he taught the same thing in others (1Cor4:17ff)… pattern (tupos) teaching.

4. Who should be baptized?
*Believers in the Gospel Message – Mark 16:15,16 Mark 16:15-16 15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
*Those who have faith in the Working of God – Col 2:12 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation (working) of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
*Penitent Believers – Acts 2:37, 38 - 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission (pardon) of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (This "gift" that the Holy Spirit gives is SALVATION!)

5. What is Baptism?
*Going into the water - Acts 8:38
*Much water – John 3:23
*A burial – Romans 6:3,4; Col 212 Romans 6:3-4 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (new birth)

6. Why be Baptized?
*Newness of Life – Rom 6:4
*Forgiven & Alive Col 2:13
*Remission of sins – Acts 2:38
*Sins Washed Away – Acts 22:16 16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
*Baptism (not the water) saves 1 Peter 3:21 21 The like figure (antitupos in Greek) whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

We have many "types" in the Bible. The blood over the door posts where the death angel "passed over" was a type, the antitype to this according to Paul was Christ "our passover." (1cor5:7)
The Rock in the desert that provided water was a "type" and the antitype was "that Rock was Christ"(1Cor 10:4)

The flood was a ‘type”… it wasn’t the real thing, but pointed to the real thing… The apostle Peter says the flood was an antitupos (we get our English word, “antitype” from antitupos) to the real thing.

The real thing is baptism says Peter. When one is “buried” with Christ (Rom 6:4ff) they emulate what Jesus did, they die to their sins, are buried and raised to walk in newness of life. Jesus died “for our sins”, was buried, and was raised on the third day.)

God allows Fellowship with Him Based completely on our confidence in Christ!!
