First Colonoscopy Today

Had my first colonoscopy today. My anxiety was high and I of course couldn't take anything to combat it. It wasn't the procedure, it was the results.

Polyps run in my family and my Uncle on my dad's side who is only a year older than me had colon cancer. So, I'm sure you can understand why my anxiety was high.

I was in and out in an hour. They removed for small polyps. The doctor sent them for biopsy as it is their procedure, but she said they looked like common run of the mill polyps and non-cancerous. She said if she was really concerned she would have put a rush on the biopsy results. She does want to sew me in a year for a repeat colonoscopy and if everything is good not again for 5 years.

YIKES! I remember the booty poke! I was not looking forward to the Fentanyl they said they were going to administer to knock me out, but WOW! I went out like a light when they started injecting that stuff into the IV line. I never made it past 9, counting backwards from ten.

No polyps. The one thing they did find turned out to be muscle tissue according to the lab report. Guess I worked out too much in the gym when younger...

I took my last colonoscopy last fall. Since the new interval for colonoscopies is every 5 years, and no requirement after age 75, being 70, I won't ever be due another one.

Hmm, my doctor told me 10 year intervals, and only five if there was family history of colon cancer. My former wife was told every five for her since her momma had died from colon cancer when my former wife was only seven years old.

I had tubular adenomas. Non-cancerous. If left there they could turn into cancer.
I am assuming your GP or specialist will get you booked for surgery??? Is that the next step??

**Edit... How rude of me... Hi naomanos. I usually have better manners than just jumping right into something.
God bless you with PEACE over this.

They were removed during the colonoscopy. I have to go back in a year and do another one though.

It's not a comforting thing to think that a PRACTITIONER practicing on me while having a snipping tool inside to do what they are practicing to do...

Been there and done exactly the same thing only I had 3 instead of 4.

They also want me to do a two-day prep next year because the one day didn't clean me out enough. I'm not sure I want to do a two-day prep.

The one-day prep made me very very sick. I had a headache and had nausea the whole time. I know it's no fun to begin with, but I seemed to have had more of a bad time than most.
