Food for thought

I probably agree, but I'm still trying to understand your usage of the word infinity.

As flesh we will never fully comprehend the greatness of God and yet God can lead us to understand (know) him in a biblical sense.

Jer 24:7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart. (KJV)

1 Cor 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (KJV)

Yes......I can se how it would be confusing. It is that way to me as well.

1. “eternal” (without beginning or end)
2. “infinite” (which just means going on forever – but having a starting point).

Clear as mud......right?

Eternity is a concept that is temporal in nature and applies to things that are timeless.
Infinity is a concept that applies to things that cannot be counted or measured.
Religion and philosophy make heavy use of the concept of eternity whereas infinity is used more often in math and physics.

Actually your words say what is the real test when you stated..........
"As flesh we will never fully comprehend the greatness of God and yet God can lead us to understand (know) him in a biblical sense."

I guess in my own mind I am using them interchangeably without knowing it because the difference is to complicated to seperate.....to me.

In coming to know God. I agree that we can never fully understand the greatness of God because we are human. Over time through the Spirit we can come to know the truth of God's love, the truth of God being with us, the truth of God acting in us, the truth of the limited knowledge that we can have of God's giving loving nature.

So I perceive that there is much more to God than I can know at this time and yet I can at this time know God in the sense that God is truly there and I can be sure of it. Know that God is love, creator, powerful, loving, kind, marvelous and so much more.

Getting to know God IMO has less to do with infinity and everything to do with who God is. God is almighty, creator, our loving father, healer, comforter, etc.
I guess my point was, getting to know who the invisible (infinite) God is, has every thing to do with who the visible incarnate Jesus Christ is in both word and deed.

Probably semantics, but I'm still not clear on how this is being applied. Probably in part my background being different.

God (plural) is definitely infinite having no beginning nor end. We are told:
Matt 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. (KJV)

So I get your reference to the visible son Jesus Christ that through him we can come to know God the Father. Christ made it possible for us to receive the Holy Spirit, come to have faith and be saved.

I'm just wrapping my mind around how this all relates to an infinite God.

I think it's both, for example as a child you only dimly understand your Father as someone who provides for you, and of course you are thankful for that, but it's not really until you grow up that you start appreciating Him for who He is.

I think Job had this type of relationship with God at first as Job was very wealthy and blessed and it wasn't until all he had was taken away from him (by Satan, though God allowed it) that He learned who God really was.
