We all go through very dark times in our life especially those due to the loss of someone, or something, precious to us, a spouse, a parent, a child, a dear friend, a pet. Even a job or our home.

At times like this there is a danger of losing hope, or even losing faith. We may feel God has forsaken us, but that is so untrue. Just like in the poem "Footprints in the Sand" God still walks beside us and then carries us through it. Keep on hanging on.

Psalms 34:17-18 (NLT) - 17 The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

Do not lose heart, be comforted by God

Jeremiah 31:13 (NLT)

13. The young women will dance for joy,
and the men—old and young—will join in the celebration.
I will turn their mourning into joy.

I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing.

2 Corinthians 12:9

"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me".

I was going through a particularly rough patch a week or so back. Things are still up in the air to a large extent. This verse, by God's grace, popped in my head one night. Gave me great encouragement. Thanks, Cosia, for this thread.

Isaiah 43: 1-2 (NLT)

1. But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
2. When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.

Psalm 40 has been a favorite of mine since He pulled me out of the muck.

"I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord".

He was the One who was patient, however. I was a stubborn fool.
God bless

2 Corinthiams 1:3 (NLT)
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.

Hello Cosia;

As I re-read God's Comfort In Our Losses led me to share;

This week I had a long conversation with a sister in Christ and another conversation with a brother in Christ to help them get perspective in their Christian walk and sudden loss of a serious situation.

The brother's Dad was a pastor and
grew up in the church. He had always been sheltered growing up with very little pain. I don't judge him for being protected and blessed with a strong foundation in the home. Praise God.

The sister grew up in a single home with one dog fight after another and it seemed to carry on into adulthood. Praise God for His constant covering throughout her life.

I observed that if the sheltered Christian and the suffering Christian face the same bad circumstance the sheltered Christian (brother) is shocked at the reality of life while the suffering Christian (sister) is better grounded for the worst.

They both asked me, "how long does this go on before God delivers us?" I told them, I don't know. When we look at Scripture Moses, David, Job, Joseph and Mary, Peter and (Jesus) suffered and didn't know when God would reveal His glory and deliver them.

I didn't quote Scriptures and tell them to trust in the Lord. Instead, it was in my Spirit to listen as they vented. They needed to release speculation and exclaim, not receive a lot of preaching or admonishing, but an attentive, listening ear and prayer for understanding them.

Their separate situations didn't go right away but they felt better expressing themself. They were able to think better.

Cosia, when you say, "Keep on hanging on" helps when we let go of that lone Christian mentality, instead, bear with one another's burdens.

God bless
you, Cosia, and thank you.

Hi Bob
I agree that we should have a listening ear. Not everyone can develop that, and it can be very hard to teach someone. Perhaps God uses people in different ways to help others. A friend to listen, another friend to pray with, a friend who is able to feel our pain and cares, a friend who can keep our faith strong. There can be a friend who has all those qualities. I believe a those are portent. We can try to feel the other person pain and some can. Losing faith can be the last straw, helping people keep faith can be life saving.
Perhaps we should give a mixture of spiritual understanding and human understanding.

God has promised He will not let go of us and I believe it is important to remember that, because it is all too easy to believe that God is punishing us and left us, then faith is lost. Job had strong faith, suffered greatly, but hung on.

We all are able to help each other, in whatever way God uses us, as long as we don't judge like jobs friends did.

We can feel somebody else's pain if we are able to listen. Then we can understand better just what they are feeling.

If I lose faith that is a dreadful thought, I would not be able to cope with suffering, that is why I believe it is important to remind people God still loves them, He cares, and is beside them.

With God All Things Are Possible.

It is tough world but we can get through it all, if we still have faith and patience.
God Bless Bob
