Caresse:)

It means we are not to bring sorrow to the Holy spirit through our life because he gave us redemption;
He promised us our reward in heaven.

Hi JesusRiegnsForever- you can easily grieve the Holy Spirit for He ( though awesomely powerful) is very gentle- He speaks with a still small voice and is constantly leading us into a deeper death expierience to our old fleshly ways and a deeper new life expierience as He reveals Jesus and the new creation God has put in our spirits- Imagine the person who's love is greater than you can imagine walking beside (He is our paraclete) you everyday talking to you, trying to guide you in the right direction, trying to teach you His ways, trying to bring you into intimate realtionship with Himself and yet you ignore Him, don't acknowledge Him and don't listen to Him- perhaps never even speaking a word to Him -the Holy Spirit is so gentle and precious the Father wouldn't even send Him until Jesus prayed for Him to come- Php 2:1 declares we are to have fellowship with the Spirit

G2842
κοινωνία
koinōnia
koy-nohn-ee'-ah
From G2844; partnership, that is, (literally) participation, or (social) intercourse, or (pecuniary) benefaction: - (to) communicate (-ation), communion, (contri-), distribution, fellowship.

Then there is another transgression we could easily make against the Spirit - 1Th 5:19 tells us not to quench the Spirit- how many times has He tried to move in a church group only to be quenched by man following his own plans and/or traditions instead of His leading? When man is in control He will quickly back off- historically that is how most revivals ended- God moves then man takes over- no flesh can ever glory in His presence-How many times have we done the same thing in our own lives- not following the leading to stop the car and talk to someone about Jesus, not spending that extra time to pray before making our desicions, ignoring that still small voice as He leads us to share, to minister, to wait, to help to give your coat to that homeless man noboby even wants to talk to-etc

The time is come for us to be a people who are filled with the Spirit, hear the Spirit, walk in the spirit, who fellowship with the Spirit, who are led of the Spirit, who are caught up in the Spirit, who have vision in the Spirit, who have purposed in the Spirit, who speak thru the Spirit, who have life in the Spirit, who mind the things of the Spirit, who thru the Spirit put to death the things of the flesh, who bear the fruit of the Spirit, who move in the gifts of the Spirit, who interceed in the Spirit, who know the will of God in the Spirit, who are mighty in the Spirit, who for the love of the Spirit strive togeather, who have revelation in the Spirit, who judge in the Spirit, who are justified and sanctified in the Spirit, who manifest the Spirit, who drink in the Spirit, who pray in the Spirit, who bless with the spirit, who recieve life form the Spirit, who have freddom in the Spirit, who are changed from glory to glory by the Spirit, who minister by the Spirit, who wait thru he Spirit, who restore in the spirit, who sow to the Spirit, who are sealed with the Spirit, who are built up togeather by the Spirit, who are strenthened by the Spirit, who keep unity in the Spirit, who are renewed in the spirit of their minds, who take the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, who make pray and supplication in the Spirit, who stand fast in one spirit, who worship in the spirit, who have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit and love one with a pure heart fervantly , who if reproached for the Name of Christ are happy for the spirit of glory and of God rest upon us,who has an ear to hear what the Spirit is saying to His church, who rest in the Spirit, who are carried away in the spirit, who have the testimony of Jesus which is the spirit of prophecy, who cry out even so come Lord Jesus!

1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Th 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
a pure

Perhaps it is time we dare to believe God and enter into this deep fellowship that we are called to- we don't need to look far for :
Know ye not that you are the temple of the Holy Ghost- you are God's holy of holies now- and He is our paraclete - the one Jesus sent to walk beside us, teach us , lead us, guide us, draw us, fill us, sanctify us and fellowship with us- let us not grieve nor quench Him- even the great Apostle Paul wanted to go his own way but yeilded his plans and changed the course of his apostic journey at the Spirit's direction- it is time we do the same- in His Name Larry

I'd like to also add the text of the New Living Translation for a bit more clarity as to what was being discussed in the entirety of Ephesians 4:17-32 (NLT). Compare the KJV text with the NLT text and you will see the concept in these verses. As translated from the Greek Language Manuscripts, it is unwise to just quote one single verse out of context without picking up the subject of the entire presentation... :)

Living as Children of Light

17 With the Lord's authority let me say this: Live no longer as the ungodly do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their closed minds are full of darkness; they are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19 They don't care anymore about right and wrong, and they have given themselves over to immoral ways. Their lives are filled with all kinds of impurity and greed.
20 But that isn't what you were taught when you learned about Christ. 21 Since you have heard all about him and have learned the truth that is in Jesus, 22 throw off your old evil nature and your former way of life, which is rotten through and through, full of lust and deception. 23 Instead, there must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes. 24 You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God's likeness-righteous, holy, and true.
25 So put away all falsehood and "tell your neighbor the truth" because we belong to each other. 26 And "don't sin by letting anger gain control over you." Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a mighty foothold to the Devil.
28 If you are a thief, stop stealing. Begin using your hands for honest work, and then give generously to others in need. 29 Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
30And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he is the one who has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
