Huh?? Its scripture, its not a religious custom at all :S

In Colossians chapter 2 many old testament commandments are called commandments of men . because they are "taste not" "touch not" "handle not" commandments . but they're still 2nd Timothy 3:16-17 . just finding their "use" takes a bit of ingenuity .

I think that, in modern American culture, the wedding ring and the taking of a man's name served the same function that head coverings did then. I think the issue is the relationship or which the practice is symbolic more so than the exact nature of the symbol itself.
