Is There Something Wrong with Me If I Don’t Feel God’s Presence in My Suffering?

When we endure suffering as Christians, it can be tempting to believe that God is no longer present. Today, Sinclair Ferguson offers tools from God’s Word that can help us in our darkest hours.

Suffering is the Raw Material for Fruitfulness in the Christian Life

"... Many of us have struggled with temptations and trials in this fallen world. Some of us have been laid low, and have lost a sense of God’s love and our purpose in this life. Sinclair Ferguson discusses this sad reality and gives a couple of pointers on how we can encourage believers to remember God’s love, remember God’s mysterious providence, and remember that Christ cares for his bruised reeds. Watch the video above for an encouraging discussion about how suffering can produce fruitfulness in our lives. ..."

Hello Major;

I don't know if you were deployed during the 1960s. I failed the Armed Forces test when I was 20.

When we traveled to Ukraine in October 2022 and October 2024, the Scriptures you shared (along with others) that we meditated on during our devotional time.

When we crossed the border from Romania, the Ukraine soldiers gave us cautious stares as we sat in our vehicles. When we were allowed to proceed a young soldier broke a little smile at me.

We delivered perishables, non-perishables, clothing, shoes, blankets, beds, etc...in an older truck. We preached, visited the community with translators. We prayed over the sick, and spoke to the good men, women, teens and children with fear in their eyes mixed with relief while we were there.

The invasion was new so the territory we entered was very intense. We didn't know day to day whether the city would be bombed or the citizens attacked. There was infrastructure destroyed so power, heat, internet and water were down during winter and had to be restored, also on a day to day repair basis.

Each Pastor felt broken hearted when we had to leave our brothers and sisters suffering in their community.

I was originally asked by some personal family not to go on this mission. I had a choice but I truly felt I was serving as a life sacrifice to Christ, but also prayed for God's protection.

At times when we are faced in situations we're not familiar with, God's Word truly does bring about reassurance.

God bless you, Major, and your family.

Bob
