How You Think can Control Your Life

I was meditating on my own walk in relation to these two verses when i saw them

1 Corinthians 2:16For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

Psalms 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

This triggered from Hebrews 11:6 that without trust it is impossible to please God and Galatians 5:6 that in Jesus Christ the only thing that matters is trust expressing itself as agape love .

Philippians 4:4-9 (The Message)

4-5Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you're on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He could show up any minute!

6-7Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

8-9Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

Yes we do need to think on the good things
 
Watch what you hear. That's what you will begin to think. I know some people who think it doesn't matter what they listen to, but its plain to see how they have changed and it has affected them. And it isn't for the good.

God can turn anything purposed for evil into good .

Thats not what I am talking about right now. He could do that. But I mean don't listen to things that are wrong or we will be decieved and begin thinking that way. Or if we listen to bad language soon we would begin to talk that way. Because its like programing a computer and thats what will come out. We need to listen to what is right and to people who think in line with God's Word, not those who would give us ungodly counsel.
 
Discernment is good . yes . remember also that as the Kingdom of God we must also prevail against the gates of Death . that's where the transformation comes in all the creation groans and is waiting for us .

We renew our mind to the Word of God which shows us what He thinks and what we are to believe. We choose to believe it and receive what He says. One day the Holy Spirit said something to me that was very profound: Humility is choosing to believe what I said in my Word over choosing to hold to what you have always believed. That’s pride.

2 Corinthians 10:4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.


Besides putting God Word in our heart to renew our mind, we must pull down every strong hold, and bring every thoughts contrary to God’s Word into obedience to God. If we do not do so immediately, the second they come to mind, and instead entertain them at all, we have lost the battle. This is where most people are defeated. Capture those thoughts and cast them down. Replace them with what the Word of God says about the situation.

It’s the battle of the mind. But God gives us the power and grace to overcome. The more we put these things into practice the more we will begin think like Him.

That is so true because the mind is where everything starts and what we put in will come out . If we are entertaining things that are not pure and we think that we can hide them , maybe you can from people but you can"t hide them from God . He knows exactly what is in our hearts .

We are just pilgrims in this land . OUr home is not of this world . we need to prepare for our heavenly home by following our Heavenly Father in Word and deed. What we do here for our Father will be rewarded in Heaven . Love not the things of this world .

This is very true. I know first hand.........sometime good sometimes bad. we have to choose what we want to hear and how we want to act. It is a conscientious choice what we want to do. O this is a good thread GS :)

Amen Chili ... I think we can all relate to that . You are not alone my son . I have also said some things in the past that are not edifying and also hurtful words and it also stems from the environment in which you are living . It was very hard for me living under a roof of a non - Christian who was abusive .

The thing is when those words come out ..... you cannot take them back . I learned through that .

Yes it can be good or bad. What you hear you will think. What you think you will say.

Lets look at the positive side. If we listen to anointed praise and worship music alot, our spirit will be stirred and filled, them we will begin singing and praising God .

Matthew 12:34
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
 
Romans 8:4
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

If we listen to our carnal fleshly mind, we can not please the Lord. We can’t enter into the great things God has for us until our mind is in line with His thoughts. We can’t move up higher in Him. We choose to think as He thinks, to believe what He says about everything, instead of what we want to think about it.

Colossians 3:2
And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.

1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things

As we grow up we put away childish ways of thinking, and self. We exchange our thoughts for God’s thoughts. It would not be good to still be a baby at age 35 in the natural and so it is in the spiritual. If we hold on to our way of thinking, we can’t go on and be how God wants us to be. We want to move up in God but our way of thinking holds us back from God’s best.


Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things
 
What we fill our life with is how our life will turn out. If we listen to the wrong things, this is the way w e will think and we will begin to believe the wrong things. Then its hard to break those strongholds in our minds. What a parent puts into their child will form the kind of mindset that will form their life.

That is so true . If a parent is always telling a child he or she is no good and will not ammount to anything , don't you think that is why we have so many young people who have low self esteem and get into drugs and alcohol ?

Exactly why. And the fact they don't raise them now but let them raise themselves, which turns out to be the negative influences of the world

That's true and there are so many so called latch key kids ... They come home eat junk food , watch all the garbage on TV and fill their tender minds with such destructive material .

And really do the parents gain anythin by making extra bucks so give them more things and maybe thinking this is apeasing thmeselves for not being there . It is a vicious circle .
 
Too many times people are ruled by their emotions instead of allowing the Spirit of God to have control of them. And they begin with our thoughts. There is nothing wrong with emotions, God gave us emotion. But they are manifested in the wrong way all too often. When we have our thinking in line with God's Word, our emotions will be manifested as love joy, peace, etc instead of hate, rage and depression.

Put off the old, the old way of thinking. Put on the new, the mind of Christ.

I choose to put God’s Word in me not drugs.
I choose to put the Word in me, not drink booze.
I choose to look at the Word of God, not porn.
I choose to look at the Word, not anything ungodly.
I choose to look at God’s words, not ungodly language.
I choose to put the Word of God in me, not listen to complaining and negativity and contentions.
I choose to think of godly things, not the things of the world.

It's a choice. What I put in me will be the outcome of me life, what I put in me changes me so it better be something good!
 
Very true. How you think can very much control your life and your sins. I remember this from a preaching from Andrew Wommack. (he has a website)

You cannot be tempted with things you don't think upon. Like how Adam and even recieved the knowledge of good and evil after eating from the tree. They were tempted by thoughts of disobedience. It's a great statement. If you don't think about lust you won't be tempted by it. If you don't think about what another person has and what you don't have then you won't be tempted by greed. If you control your thinking then you can control your sins. Things you think on or focus your attention on, you become softened to and things you ignore or don't consider you become hardened to. If you focus on the things of God then your heart will be softened to God and hardened to the things of the devil but if you focus on temptations like lust or greed etc then you will become soft to them and hardened to God and more likely to sin. Once you expose yourself to them, It becomes hard to ignore them.

Phil, this is very good. Its true what you give yourself to that is the direction your life will go. So we continually dwell of God's ways, diligently and even purposely follow in the steps the Spirit of God is taking us. And we immediately take any thoughts captive that are contrary to God's Word, and get our thoughts back in line with Him.
