I'm Scared

Hi, I'm a newbie. I don't know when I became a Christian, but I'm sure I am one. It was probably when I was in my teens. I'm 41 now, and I am afraid to go on. I'm afraid a demon is harassing me, and it makes me sad, depressed, fearful, troubled, and unproductive. All I know is I'm filled with fear.

When I was in my early 20's I had an unhealthy sexual relationship with a lady who I figured out later was dabbling in occult type practices - to what extent I don't know. Then I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. After that I turned to pornography to medicate my problems.

Ever since I've gotten counseling from a Christian pastor on this stuff, the bad habits I formed are slowly going away.. but I'm still troubled and am becoming very quiet because I don't know what to say anymore in day to day life.

If anybody has any helpful advice I'd really appreciate it.

Well my brother, let me assure you that God does not want us to live in fear.

Philippians 2:13-15 might be some good words for you to hold onto.
"For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world".

I encourage you to do two things.

1st. Investigate and find a Bible believing church where you can attend. Hopefully a Baptist church.

2nd. You stated you were a Christian. MAKE SURE! When the invitation is given at the end of the service, go down to the preacher and tell him you want to make sure of your salvation. He will know what to do.

You hang in there bro and read your Bible and pray. God hears you! God will help you., but remember this, we must also help ourselves.

I wouldn’t dwell so much on the past. Take the example of one of the greatest of Church Fathers, Aurelius Augustinus Hipponensis aka St. Augustine of Hippo. Well know are his struggles from adolescence to his early thirties with sexual passions. Augustine was involved with numerous women, concubines, even an illegitimate son. It wasn’t until he heard school children playing and chanting in the distance; “Take up and read, Take up and read” (or something of the sort) and he thought it was directed at him, he picked up and read his Bible, I don’t remember the verse, and that’s when his conversion started. (I’m going completely from memory on this so forgive me if it’s not entirely accurate but it’s close) So a little latter he was being chased down by one of his harlots at the time and she was saying; “Stop, Stop it’s me, Augustine it’s me”. Augustine’s reply was; “Yes I know, but I am not Me anymore!”. I’d recommend reading Augustine’s Confessions.

As far as demons, yes there are 1/3 of them here on the earth with us. I’d say focus only on Christ and the demons will go away. It's also well know that Martin Luther had struggles with the devil himself. It’s said in the office where Luther would study is a large ink stain still on the wall to this day. Story is the devil was taunting him and Luther picked up the ink well and threw it at the devil. Now the devil had many reasons to thwart God’s Providence for Martin Luther but it didn’t stop Luther from being one of the greatest heroes of the Christian Faith. If there is a demon tormenting you it’s probably a lesser demon and he’s only doing it because he can. Like I said focus on Christ and he depart from you.

I don’t know you Christian Pastor so I can’t comment. My advice to you would be to meditate on God’s law day and night, take your every thought, and I mean every thought captive and test it against the Scriptures, keep a constant communion with God every waking second of your life, read your Bible and pray, read your Bible and pray.

Remember; “Not my will but Thy Will be done”, pray only that God’s will be done and don’t focus on yourself and you should be just fine. I think too often in our struggles we tend to pray to get out of those struggles and that may not be God’s will for us at that time. Focus on God's Will and His Glory in your prayers. I love the example of Jonah in the belly of the great fish because I can think of no other worse situation; cold, dark, constrained, suffocating, the stench of death. If it were me I’d be praying; “Get me out of here!” but what does Jonah do? He praises and glorifies God!

It’s does no one any good to pray against God’s will. All things work together for the Glory of God and those who love Him and in the grand scheme of things that is the only thing that really matters regardless of your situation. So do you align yourself with God’s will, or against it? In all things praise and glorify God!

Worship the one true God; Read your Bible, Meditate on His Word, Pray in the name of the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost, Fast, Fellowship with Bible believing Christians and repeat...

Any Spirit that will not confess that Jesus Christ is the risen living Son of God is not of God.... Salvation first-obedience second, blessings are followed by sacrifice.

God left this note for you:

...God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them... And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. ...Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

I am the way, the truth and the life.

Love

Jesus the Christ-Son of the Living God

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. But God commandeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

With Love,

Paul-Apostle to the Gentiles

I'm scared too friend

The only advice I will give you is hang in there and don't be afraid of just being you. Its ok if you don't have all the answers and try to let go of your past and look at what you have today.
