Good Day, Friends; The old saying, "God helps those who help themselves", while not found in scripture, does bring up an interesting point of discussion. This old saying essentially means that if we do what is right in our own lives, God will reward us. While that is admirable, it is somewhat incomplete. Perhaps the person who coined that saying should have considered an alternate wording... "God helps those who helps others." Now THAT is a personal commitment that means much more to God, I'm sure. Helping ourselves to get through life as best as we can is fine, but when we help others, by charity or by kindness or with sincere concern, we are doing much more than just helping ourselves... we are pleasing God. May God bless.

FYI: It was first seen in ancient Greece in several of Aesop's Fables, then quoted in roughly 1651 by English Politician Algernon Sidney and also quoted by Benjamin Franklin before and during his time with the Second Continental Congress. Since the Greek origin has been attributed to several possible persons, it is unknown who the first person to actually coin the phrase really was.
