Is anyone perfect?

Just pondering this question for believers.

I often read about mothers who describe their babies as 'perfect, especially in women's magazines. They will often say their child has blond hair and blue eyes, and childen are never missing a finger or have an extra cleft palate or any birthmarks. There nose is 'cute as a button' and when children grow their teeth perfectly straight, like they never have to pay for dental work. They are not clumsy and never cry out of turn. They never seem to have health issues. They are always perfectly dressed in the latest and newest clothes and always clean. I'm in wonder of how these golden children can be perfect and never do anything wrong?!

Perfect simply means there is nothing left to change. It does not necessarily mean ideal. To be perfect in someone's eyes means the person loves you as you are and has no desire to change you.

Hello Jason;

God bless you and thank you for sharing a wise post.

Hey Lanolin;

Magazines and TV commercials give that colorful impression of beautiful people in a world of splendor. If you buy their product, purchase that magnificent vacation or cruise you've invested wisely and can also live a life of grandeur. You know what I mean. The reality is, we can never have a life as described.

Jesus was not portrayed as a stunning sex symbol. He appeared poor, probably wore the same apron around the hips or loins called an ezor and cloth skirt. Jesus slept wherever He could outside. Jesus couldn't take a bath daily like the wealthy did. He spent more time ministering to poor, sick and filthy people (sheep.) Jesus did not appear attractive and went unnoticed until later when He fulfilled prophecy while dying on the cross.

It's natural for humans to look and appear their best during first impressions. People who appear this way as
perfect is in the eye of the beholder until they get to know that perfect person and learn they smell, burp, make bad decisions and have (deep, inner battles) and expose their imperfections like the rest of us.

If you notice, the magazine ads and TV commercials never end their plugs by giving thanks to God. We who live (humbled with humility) aside in Christ have a spirit of content gratitude, give Him thanksgiving even during the dark times.

When Paul wrote to the Thessalonians he was very pleased and encouraged that they had grasped Christ early in their faith. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

so...warts and all?

If I had a big wart on my face, or a lumpy breast, missing one eye and a finger, and had gangrene, someone will still love me?

Would someone love someone in that condition, hardly. I suppose that most of us would keep someone like that at arm's length. But then our love is based on circumstance.
Talk about perfection, we know that Jesus was perfect yet scripture says there was no beauty in him that we should desire him. We know that God is love and yet look at all the hardships his people had/have to go through.
It seems we need to rethink what perfection means.

Hello 2404;

Good post, brother. "based on circumstance" reminded me of conversations I've had with so many people who confess they base their love on circumstances of all kinds. I understand that there is no Christ follower "cookie cutter" that defines our personal Agape love for others.
God understands each one of us. This is why He sees our
heart strive to love one another's inner cup and outer appearance.

It's a lifetime discipline for all of us. Jesus saw this in His mission and revealed His example of loving the filthiest and most physically challenged.

I once took the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) home from work and a women who survived
3rd degree burns was sitting close to me and when we looked at each other I could not help notice her burns especially on her face. Fortunately her eyes were not affected and she could see the look in my eyes. She was probably used to this kind of look toward her. What touched me was she smiled at me and I returned the smile.

Was I sincere? I believe so because God does not limit the love in us. He continuously builds our love for one another despite our personal circumstances. But for each of us in our lifetime will always be a continued growing process.

God bless you, brother, and your family.

Yes quite an experience, about the women. I recall a number of years ago when I was riding the transit, a young fellow got on, I'd say early teens, and he had a case of elephantitise on one side of his face. Talk about contrast, one side tight and slim and the other much overdone. His eye, nose and lips especially pronounced. I made eye contact and a person could see the terror in making a public appearance.

women get all sorts of things done, for men.

I am terrified of going under a surgeon's knife. What if he sliced me open and cut out the stuff he didn't like and I was permanently scarred. Or poked me with a needle or left something inside my body??

Jewish boys are circumcised at 8 days old. They hardly feel it.

FGM is quite common in many countries - female genital mutilation.

I don't read magazines btw they are mostly advertising. I just look at them in hospital and throw them away after reading them. They might be good for a laugh but they don't make you feel any better.

I also wonder what kind of housewife puts their home in a magazine and lets photographers go inside and takes photos of their private space. Do they get paid to do this?? Or are they getting kickbacks from all the furniture and products they've purchased?

I just feel a bit weird looking at these magazines of peoples homes and it's often said that the couples are architects or designers, so maybe they are just showing off their business. I mean there are no stories of believers homes and people talking about their faith and where they go to pray (in their prayer closets?) or maybe photos of homeless peoples digs.

Seems like nobody can love an ugly-looking woman. cry....which makes us women even uglier.

Hello Lanolin;

Where I am today in my personal faith in Christ, I cannot master what God created, but I truly believe God created all of us wonderfully made and beautiful. I take that belief, apply, and having posted here (CFS) before, all women are beautiful.

In those magazines and photographers that you posted, even TV, there are countless woman and men who interviewed for the modeling and got turned down for reasons that lack in the decision maker's eyes, attractiveness.

God goes beyond the romance in the world. He treasures and loves everyone immeasurably.

God bless you, sister.

They feel it! It just that in a little while they forget about it when their diaper is full.

The media portrayed Jesus has always been portrayed as attractive to me. The intelligent hippie Jesus with his long hair and cool scruffy robes is quite catchy to women. Beards are in fashion as is long hair today. He has hundreds of followers, which makes him even cooler. He ripped the wealthy leaders apart, that’s also seen as admirable and jack sparrow-ish wit…

I imagine that’s why some of these cult leaders sometimes draw on His teachings or even try to look like the media born Jesus.

I have known women who were breathtakingly beautiful, but as I grew to know them became progressively uglier. I have also known women who were initially modest looking, but after a while became stunningly gorgeous. Truth to tell, an ugly person is ugly on the inside and no makeup can hide that, but a beautiful person shines forth like a diamond -- even covered in mud, their beauty cannot hide.

What I'm trying to say is focus on being a beautiful person, not on mere superficial beauty.

Most women don't wear makeup, only actresses and models need to, but its more for protection than for looks, because without makeup people can't actually see blonde people's eyes or lips.

Also makeup is just for the face, what about other body parts.

It's mostly actors playing Him.

They aren't all models in magazines, often its just famous or rich people. For example Womens weekly magazines is not a modelling or fashion magazine, its a gossip rag. But the articles often talk about 'perfect' people, inevitably, blonde and blue eyed tall women. In other words, Princess Diana look a likes.

I'm not jealous of blondes or anything, but why is it they get all the attention? Even in the Bible, fair-haired women get all the attention. Dark haired women never get a break and we all get lumped in with witches and harlots.
