Is it wrong to listen to uncensored music?

My favorite kind of music is rap. Its what I've grown up with and what I like to listen to. Yet I dont like edited songs because it messes up the flow of the song and takes away from what it was meant to be.

I've been saved by Christ and I dont cuss or anything. So is it really wrong to listen to unedited music?

If they are singing of ungodly things or using words that are not wholesome, it is not goodd for a Christian. It would be like eating garbage to the recreated born again spirit.

I used to be attracted to many things that I am not anymore; simply because God has entered my heart and has changed me. I used to participate in getting drunk, cussing up a storm, listening to rap, and doing things that I shouldn't be doing. Those can seem all fun and stuff, (they used to be for me) but I honestly have no desire for any of that anymore. I owe it all to Jesus and I thank Him.

Why would you want to listen to "music" (Rap is NOT music in my opinion) that uses any foul language? I walked behind a car in a parking lot that had that noise blaring (VERY loudly), and in the short time it took to walk past that car I heard the MF phrase 5 times. I couldn't get past that car fast enough. Does that kind of language honor or please God? I seriously doubt it. Can we convince anyone that "Christ changes lives" when there is very little (if any) change in ours?

Because even though it does have cuss words, the music still speaks to me. Like I said, I was raised in the hip-hop culture

Matthew 5:34-36 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

Matthew 23:21-22 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

Psalms 10:7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

Jeremiah 23:10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.

I believe rap that has excessive cursing in it should not be listened to; it's garbage like Godspeaks mentioned. That music is not pleasing to the Lord's ear and it shouldn't be pleasing to you either.

1 Cor. 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Would you submit your body to listen and speak filthy language, look at pornography, do inappropriate things with your hands, go to wicked places with your feet, submit your mouth and stomach to gluttony, your lungs to smoke if you know that God has chosen your body as His abode?? I would not like to stay in a home that is exposed to such things!

That is why Paul wrote in Rom 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

How can our mind be renewed if we listen, look and expose our bodies to rubbish?

There's a scripture floating around in the Bible somewhere (I will try to find it). But it says when you swallow something, you produce that thing that you're swallowing. For example, you are with friends. And they are swearing up a storm. You aren't swearing just yet, but you are taking in the swear words. Later on, you say a swear word. You're producing the thing that you're swallowing.

Now, for me, I try not to listen to songs that talk about sex, drinking, and with swear words. I just feel that God wants us to stay away from them.
Most of the music I listen to is Christian. (Christian rock, some Christian rap, maybe some Christian heavy metal, and of course worship music.) Words have big meanings. This is why we need to be careful of what the lyrics are talking about! When you take in something, you produce it in some other way.

If you like rap, you should try Lecrae. He is an awesome Christian rapper. I absolutely love him! His words are amazing. Here are another list of some Christian rappers and hiphop:
Mars III
T-Bone
4th Avenue Jones
Braille
DJ Maj
Flame
Grits
Group 1 Crew
John Reuben
Kaboose
KJ-52
Lecrae (one of my favorites)
Paul Wright
Paul Wright
Playdough (also one of my favorites!)
RedCloud
Verbs

Hope this helps!

they give us these things to digest, then you become what you digest.you have to be careful,we are in a spirit war.

Exactly! That was what I was saying as well! Do you by chance know where that scripture is located? (I've looked everywhere for it! I know it's somewhere in the Bible, I just can't find it :( )
Blessings to you!

not sure if it is this verse which you mean.?but we are told to guard our hearts,my advice would be to check the lyrics.see if they oppose the truth.

The problem with uncensored music is that, the more you start listening to it the greater chances you will begin to emulate that behavior.

well, even with censored music, you can still pretty much understand what word they are BEEPING out.
i only listen to family life network and klove. which are both christian radio stations.

I think the scriptures you are looking for is as follows:
Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he... (actually the whole book of Proverbs is full of warnings and examples of what will happen if you mix or get involved with the wrong things or people!)
The book of Ecclesiastes also contains scriptures especially for young people (Ecc. 11:9 - 12:1-8) and also some moral guidance.
We've got a saying in Afrikaans that goes like this: "Meng jou met die semels dan vreet die varke jou op." I know you wont understand a word so I'll try to translate it; If you mix yourself with pig's food, the pigs will definitely eat you as well!
I couldn't find anything in line of what you are looking for, but there is quite a few scriptures especially in Romans 14 and 1Cor. 8
Here are some more scriptures for you to go and look up:

Job 15:35, Job 20:15,20,23, Prov. 13:25, 18:20, Matt. 15:17, 1Cor.6:13, Phil. 3:19. Please do my a favour and read the verses in context with the rest of the chapters indicated as there are different applications.

Hope it will help you.
