How? Why?
This is what I wanted to talk about. Such ideas as irrevocable blessing are foreign to our modern, legally minded way of thinking. Today Esau would claim fraud and Jacob would be punished, end of story. But back then things were different.Isaac could not revoke his blessing because patriarchal blessings in Scripture function as prophetic confirmations of God’s will, not changeable human wishes.
The world may change, and all within it may fade, but the truths revealed in God’s Word remain constant. As we stand on God’s Word, we anchor ourselves to something unchanging and eternally reliable, a source of stability amid the ever-fluctuating conditions of life.This is what I wanted to talk about. Agreed, but Esau was the elder. Isaac thought he was blessing Esau. Isaac thought God's blessing was falling on Esau.Any promise that God made He kept or it has not yet come to pass.

After the fact we can piece together that God's blessing was meant for Jacob, but how would Isaac know that? To him it would have seemed evil what Jacob did. Indeed, Esau sought to kill his brother after this.
