For me, where Isaiah 40 speaks of the Lord leading His flock like a shepherd and gently taking up the tender lambs, it reminds me so much of the sheer patience and longsuffering of God toward His people.

'Perverse and foolish oft I strayed
And yet in love He sought me.
And on His shoulder gently laid,
And home rejoicing brought me.'
