James 1:19-25

James 1:19-25 King James Version (KJV)
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

James 1:19-25

BBE19You have knowledge of this, dear brothers. But let every man be quick in hearing, slow in words, slow to get angry;20For the righteousness of God does not come about by the wrath of man.21For this reason, putting away all dirty behaviour and the overweight of evil, take into your souls without pride the word which, being planted there, is able to give you salvation.22But be doers of the word, and not only hearers of it, blinding yourselves with false ideas.23Because if any man is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a glass;24For after looking at himself he goes away, and in a short time he has no memory of what he was like.25But he who goes on looking into the true law which makes him free, being not a hearer without memory but a doer putting it into effect, this man will have a blessing on his acts.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

19 We should think before we speak this way we may not say something we are going to regret as much, this is also saying we are consider what others are saying before we talk to prevent them from being angry as well.

20 While there is righteous anger because God has been angry and Jesus got angry at the temple most of the time anger is sinful and leads us to further sin. Sinful behavior should us mad but we should never direct that anger towards people because then it become sinful for us.

21 We are to as Christians continually remove the evils from our life the things that could keep us from serving the Lord, this does not mean it is easy or that we will be perfect this is why we have to keep doing this, they had cleansing pools at the temple because they needed to be used often because they would become unclean again, we will sin and need to keep turning to Jesus away from sin.

22 We are to live by the word of the Lord this shows we are His, it is pointless to know the word if you don’t follow it, it condemns yourself.

23-24 He is using imagery here no one looks in a mirror and then has to go back right after unless someone points out something to them that they missed, they look into the mirror and make sure they look they way they want before leaving the mirror, we are to follow the word to look they way Jesus wants us to, we should not forget whose we are.

25 We are to keep in His word this way we do not forget what He wants from us and so we can further learn where He wants to take and so we can keep growing in Him, this is done only by living for Him by His word.
