Job

Job

Why did the Lord allow Job to go through all that he did?
Additionally, in Job, it says the angels came to present themselves in front of the Lord and satan came with them. Is this to say that satan came to heaven? And the Lord asked satan where he came from and satan replied "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it." Any ideas?

The following is a repost of a study I did on just that topic:

Another of our family studies, I hoe you might enjoy it and be encouraged in your walk by it-

JOB’S TRAIL- GOD’S VICTORY
Job 1:6 Now there was1961 a day3117 when the sons1121 of God430 came935 to present themselves3320 before5921 the LORD,3068 and Satan7854 came935 also1571 among8432 them.

This is true, that God allowed Satan to be in control of Job, but only to a certain extent. God didn't allow Satan to actually kill Job. He allowed Job to go through these things in order to make his faith stronger.

All who trust in Christ will be safe from the second death- this body is only a temporary shell.

Did Job have a a problem, different from wha his miserable comforters were voicing?

Well stated Larry,

We can also perceive the story of Job "seemingly" to have contradictions.

The following is a non-traditional, non-populist view of Job:

Why did God allow Satan to mistreat Job so badly and why Job had to go through all those terrible crises without any purpose other than to prove to Satan that God was right.

I believe the history of Job firstly shows us that suffering is inflicted by Satan, and is overruled by God for purposes of mercy. Hence, we always want to show mercy (not sentalmentism) to our fellow brothers and sisters.

Job did not turn his back on God, for he was righteous in Christ. The arguments of his miserable "comforters" are typical of the Eastern mentality regarding human suffering. Their argument of Job's intense sufferings must have been the result of some secret sin in his life."

Does God punish us like that? Does He cause us to suffer physically for our sins? No. Certainly many of our physical sufferings are simply the result of the sin problem. ... Anyway, God rebukes Job's "comforters" in the end because of their misrepresentation of His loving character.

I believe one of the important elements that has escaped us is Job's reaction to all of what was happening to him. A lesson for us to learn. He does not necessarily reject their reasoning regarding punishment for sin, but he "defends" his own righteousness. That is why Job is so puzzled.

Job wanted to learn what was going on with him? "Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; cause me to understand wherein I have erred .... is their injustice on my tongue?" (Job 6:24,25,30). Job is saying, "Where have I gone wrong? ... I am blameless, even though I am suffering." "You know that I am not wicked"

Job did have a problem, as we all do! "No. I have not sinned. I have kept God's commandments; I have held my integrity." Job 23.

Is Job confident in his own righteousness or is he defending justification by faith in Christ alone? Of course, Job goes on to defend his good works of feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, caring for orphans and widows. "So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous IN HIS OWN EYES" (Job 32:1).

Job was sincere; he was honest. But he had a problem that all of us have--he was righteous in his own eyes. But God rebukes Job. "Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me" (Job 38:2,2). Is not God rebuking Job for his attitude?

Now notice, Job repents. "Then Job answered the Lord and said: 'Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth'" (Job 40:3,4). God's words silenced Job's pretense to righteousness. Could it be that his attitude was one of the rich young ruler who came to Jesus saying," All these things have I kept from my youth up" (Matt. 19:20).

When Job came face to face with God, he admitted, "I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. ... Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes" (Job 42:3,6).

Yes, Job was doing all the right things, he was on the moral high ground, yet he did not understand that his self-righteousness was mere filthy rags, as mine are in God's sight. Interesting, that is the exact condition of Laodicea. "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing--and do not know your are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked ..." (Rev. 3:14-22).

Spiritual pride is our downfall. Job repented of this, may we learn the lessons that God gives us through the story of Job, a sinner saved by grace like the rest of us. It was hard for Job to admit he had a problem in his spiritual life. It was hard for Peter to repent of his own opinion. It was hard for Paul to give up his righteousness of the law.

God allowed Satan to touch Job for a purpose. May we all see that purpose. Only God's righteousness, not our own can save us from self. May we also continually look to Calvary, where Christ has redeemed us from self-righteousness. Oh, that we may take comfort in Job's story.

blessings to you in Christ,
John

Good word John- God seems to have a knack for bringing us to the end of ourself- that is where His work really begans.

Amen Larry. God has told us what His goal is for our lives: I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people" (2 Cor. 6:16).

Here is a quote by a preacher of righteousness:

"Love is the basis of godliness. Whatever the profession; no man has pure love to God unless he has unselfish love for his brother and sister. But we can never come into possession of this spirit by trying to love others. What is needed is the love of Christ [agape] in the heart. When self is merged in Christ, love springs forth spontaneously. The completeness of Christian character is attained when the impulse to help and bless others springs constantly from within--when the sunshine of heaven fills the heart and is revealed in the countenance" End Quote.

The story of Job is very interesting. Here's my take on it:

Satan tries to make a bet with God, saying that the only reason Job likes God is because God has been favorable to Job in giving him a really comfy life. Satan bets that if all of this is taken away, that Job will curse out God.

So God allows Satan to take all of it away. Eventually, Job has every single bit of pleasure in this life taken away. His family, his possessions, and his health. He literally has nothing earthly that can give him pleasure. All that is left is his faith.

So then Job starts crying out about the pain he is in. Job's three friends come to argue against Job and insist that there must have been something wrong that Job did in order to cause God to inflict this upon him. They insist that Job has to be a sinner of some sort. But Job fervently argues for his integrity.

Basically, after all of this arguing, Job insists that he has done nothing to deserve this, but he ultimately says that he will never curse God; he will never turn his back on God.

So Job passed the test, and Satan lost his bet. God then spoke to Job to help Job understand that he can never argue against the all-knowing all-powerful Almighty. He sees that God is always right, and that we are justified through our faith in God. God reprimanded Job's friends for insisting that Job had to do something wrong in order for his hardships to befall him. People can still be good and still have hardships befall them. Faith is what is truly important, more than anything else in this life. God restores Job's life to what is was after he learns this lesson.

well

God created all things to work to HIS Glory. It all ended when Job prayed for his friends and also Job was double blessed in the end. I believe satan is used to help us grow in Christ. To show us who we are inside. God knows us better then we know ourself. Ever react to something and say to your self where did that come from. We go through as much hell here on earth as we want too. If we feed the spirit then the soul will have to line up with the spirit. but as Paul say I die daily. It is building yourself in the holy ghost. every morning because it is too late to prevent it at night.
It is a Jesus every morning for me
Praise and Worship:dance::dance::dance:
