Judging others.

Judging others

Mat 7:1.. "Judge not, that you be not judged.
Mat 7:2.. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.
Mat 7:3.. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
Mat 7:4.. Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye?
Mat 7:5.. You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

Are we suppose to judge others? What if you see someone stealing something, are we to say something or just let them go their way? Notice in verse 5 says...

“first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.”

Jesus commands us to judge, but not according to appearance, but with righteous judgment!!
Jesus is telling us, you better not be doing what you are judging others of doing or you will be judged with the same judgment you are judging others with!!!!

John 7:24.. Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment."

1Co 6:2.. Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases?
1Co 6:3.. Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life!

Looks like we are going to judge this world, and also angels!! Maybe we better start practicing what we thought we are not suppose to do!!!

Jesus Judged others...

Mat 23:23.. "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
Mat 23:24.. You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!

Joh 8:44.. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Volumes could be written about Jesus bringing judgment upon certain people for their actions.

John the Baptist also judged.......

Mat 14:3.. For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife,
Mat 14:4.. because John had been saying to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."
Mat 14:5.. And though he wanted to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet.

John lost his head for not compromising the Word of God and telling it like it is!!!!

The Apostles judged......

1Co 6:8.. But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers!
1Co 6:9.. Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,
1Co 6:10.. nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

1Co 5:1.. It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father's wife.
1Co 5:2.. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.
1Co 5:3.. For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing.
1Co 5:4.. When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus,
1Co 5:5.. you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

1Jn 2:22.. Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.

All of the Apostles were killed (except John) for not compromising the Word of God, by speaking out against what was wrong.

1Ti 5:20.. As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.
1Ti 5:21 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep these rules without prejudging, doing nothing from partiality.

2Ti 4:1.. I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:
2Ti 4:2.. preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.

Tit 2:15.. Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.

1Th 5:14.. And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.

Eph 5:11.. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

Pro 27:5.. Better is open rebuke than hidden love.

Rom 2:1.. Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.

This is "exactly" what Jesus said NOT to do!!!! That is to judge others when you yourself are doing exactly the same thing!!!!!

Everyone judges everything all the time. Most Christians can't tell the difference and never learn that in order to grow in Christ they must first realize that they themselves are wrong about a lot of things including and especially the scriptures. No matter how much one studies, if they don't learn to listen to the Holy Spirit, it's all an intellectual exercise. Only the Holy Spirit can reveal the truth, 2 Cor 4:3. This holds true until we die as this "reality" is merely a shadow of the truth, Heb 10:1; Job 17:7; Col 2:17. We think we're in control, but we're only in a test: with just a choice, life or death, obedience or disobedience.

There are several kinds of judging.

There is the pronouncement of guilt/innocence. Since we are not The Judge of these matters, we should do _extremely_ little of this. Most of the scriptures mentioned above are of this nature. Where the guilt or innocence is determined by the Lord, and not our own self righteousness, judgement in His name is His work, but great care must be exercised, or we stray into self righteousness, which is just as sinful as anything we may condemn.

There is also the kind of judgement that is more synonymous with discernment, as in
1 Cor 2:14,15: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

The above is in the King James version, while the NASB renders "judgeth" as "appraises". This demonstrates a fundamental difference between Judging as one pronouncing a verdict, and making an assessment, which meant only to govern our own actions.

The first meaning is placing ourselves above others, while the second is simply recognizing between good and evil.

As an example, recognizing that a given establishment (e.g. strip club) is not an edifying establishment and something to avoid, or even work to shut down; is not the same as condemning all that do frequent it as being unworthy of or beyond the love of God.

We can be unwavering in our opposition to evil without pronouncing judgement on those involved.

Brother, judging is always done by God himself, and he uses his body for such matters which is the Church. As it is written, "if any man speak, let him speak the very oracles of God, if any man minister, let him do according to the ability that God gives that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen" (1 Peter 4:11)

The Old Testament has a book called, "Judges" in which God himself judged his people though the mouth of these judges. They did not decide for themselves what to say, they simply spoke as the Spirit God came upon them, as Jesus tells us here.

John 10:34.. Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I said, you are gods'?
John 10:35.. If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken—

These people were called "gods" because the Lord himself spoke through them as if he was standing right there.

The Church is in a similar way for as the Holy Spirit comes upon his Church and gives his gifts, particularly a "Word of Knowledge" by the same Spirit which is information given to a child of God that he could not have received any other way. It is and will always be by the Spirit of God that judgment is given, not by our own efforts.

What happens if a brother gets off track, are we to just let God bring him back, or should we say something to them? Of course everything must be done in the Spirit, and not the flesh!!

James 5:19.. My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back,
James 5:20.. let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

What if we don't say anything?

Ezekiel 33:6 (KJV)
But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take [any] person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.

Asking God for a "Word" (life) to speak to a fellow believer who has gotton off track, God will give a Word to speak to them that will cause them to recover themselves from the snare of the devil.

1John 5:16.. If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that.

2Ti 2:24.. And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,
2Ti 2:25.. correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,
2Ti 2:26.. and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

Keeping our mouths shut will yield no results.

Gal 6:1.. Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. (ESV)

This can not be done without saying something, and what is said will always be the Word of God concerning the situation, not our own thoughts or opinions.

Judging is NOT condemning, but speaking the "truth" in love.
