Learning Genesis Take 2

So we were up to Noah;

Gen 6:16 You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. 18 But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21 And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.”

22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

It's a good story but I struggle to take it seriously just from a logistics point of view. What happened to the fish, God was not bothered about them?

I think God did a massive scale extinction to the fishes by a whole world flood and made a small amount of fishes to survive so they reproduced.

Gen 7:1 Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation. 2 You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female; 3 also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep the species alive on the face of all the earth. 4 For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made.” 5 And Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him. 6 Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth.

Is there significance to the 7:2 ratio of clean/unclean or he's just not really that bothered about the carnivores survival?

It's just the whole messing about that intrigues me. If I was an all powerful, omnipotent, omni etc. God and things had turned out a bit sour why go through all this hassle of a flood and what not?

BANG, planet destroyed, lesson learnt, right then I'll start again. You have to admit it's all a bit of a drama.

I was sorry that the other thread was closed.

Something to be noted with Noah: when Adam and Eve were thrown out of Eden, God also cursed the ground. 10 generations later, with Noah, the curse was lifted.
As for logistics, there are several possibilities but there are those better than I that can explain.

The curse is still with us. Thorns and thistles abound.

God didn't need to learn, we did. Noah survived to tell how God it, why God did it, and we need to learn from Noah.

This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. (Genesis 6:9 NLT)

We need to walk in close fellowship with God, simple enough.

I do not think God planned from the beginning to have this Flood.
Genesis 6:5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
One would not regret making something knowing all along it was going to have these problems and would be in need of destruction. One would have the attitude, "Yeah, I knew this would happen and now it's time to destroy it, just like I planned it." No regret, just following the routine of the plan. Clearly this is not the case.

The Flood was a solution to the overt evil running amok. He had angels who were perverting His creation and the evil needed cleaned off the earth.

talk about drama…. stage props……

a middle eastern man at those times most likely haven’t heard of North and South Pole ice caps…

If am not mistaken, an atheist who dropped by here, AnAtheist, asked a question where the water comes from……

THERE IS water available....

Gen 7:7 So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. 8 Of clean animals, of animals that are unclean, of birds, and of everything that creeps on the earth, 9 two by two they went into the ark to Noah, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 And it came to pass after seven days that the waters of the flood were on the earth. 11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.

So how did Noah persuade all these animals to walk onto a boat? What was the total estimated number of species at that time, presumably somewhere between 1.5 and 1.9 million as we see today (although that is only the number known to us now).

Did this include birds and reptiles and insects?

You're reading the scriptures, you tell us.

Gen 7:13 On the very same day Noah and Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark— 14 they and every beast after its kind, all cattle after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort. 15 And they went into the ark to Noah, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life. 16 So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in.

I see, all answered in the next bit. So it does include every insect and bird. My question is how is that possible to gather 2 million species (either 2 of each or 7 of each?) into one single boat?

How did Polar Bears get there? How did Mayflies survive?
How on earth would you transport the unique species of the Galapagos or Madagascar to the ark? It baffles me to be honest.

From chapters such as Leviticus 11, it is obvious that the created kind (min in Hebrew, in Genesis 1:11–12, 21, 24–25) was a much broader category than the modern term of classification, species. Current baraminological2 research suggests that the created kind most closely corresponded to the family level in current taxonomy. However, to be conservative in this study, the genus was set as equivalent to the original created kind. As for the clean animals that entered the ark in seven pairs, this added a modest number of additional animals, notably bovids (cow-like mammals) and cervids (deer-like mammals). Under these conservative assumptions, there were no more than 16,000 land animals and birds on the ark.

What! And how have we arrived at current speciation levels in 4000 years?
