Longing for Corruption

The flesh desires whatever it can find to offer gratification and will partake of it until it can destroy itself with it. When you find yourself at odds with the flesh what are some ways you find that are effective in deterring human desires?

John 3:6 (NASB) "That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit."

Here are a few things that I do not in any particular order:

  • There are certain situations that I avoid knowing my particular weaknesses and other I avoid on general principle.
  • I strive to keep in an attitude of prayer especially when tempting situations crop up
  • It helps to remember Phil 4:8 "think on these things ..."
I'm sure there are other things we each do in our individual lives knowing many, if not all of our weaknesses.

Hello Nazarene Servant;

The more time I spend in prayer, reading the Bible, attending Bible studies, spending time serving those closest to me and knowing my priorities;

God ministry first, wife ministry second, family ministry and ministry ministry, in that order, deters me from the temptations to my flesh.

I feel the world sees this as a boring, no frills and thrills type of life. But I would never trade God for the world.

God also permits us to enjoy life. I love watching soccer (used to play when I was young), dining out with my wife and friends, going to the beach, watching a good movie, etc...

I learned to pray for the spirit of time management which balances out everything on a daily basis. With God, this works with sincere prayer. God will fill me with the discipline to apply this.

Sure, those thoughts and temptations to the flesh creep up each week with me. But I developed a habit of stopping at that moment and going to God in prayer, and He faithfully steps in and protects me. Afterall, I have my time of work to do for the Lord.

Ephesians 5:15-17, 15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

God bless you, Sam, and your family.

I have thought of something.
It’s in line with what the others have said.
Instead of wanting approval, and emotional security from others.
I sit and watch nature, and I get more “manna” than I could ever wish for.like a Beautiful sunrise/ sunset..... Gods Beauty feeds my soul more these days!
I think He was meant to take up the most part of us. No wonder He gets jealous lol

blessings Sam.

the flesh is very big enemy one of the 3 enemies of the soul world flesh Satan praying is one of the best ways . my past life i battel with my biggest enemy is me .imo to fight the flesh takes discipline that is the key Paul wrote finally my brother be strong in the LORD and the power of his might so we have to be strong in the lord strong in faith the word and prayer . if i let my mind wander very much i can react to what my flesh craves and feed it . the old saying you are what you eat . james gives us tools to work with james 4 : 6But He gives us more grace. This is why it says: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.…

I would offer as part of prayer without ceasing in so much that whatever we do eat or drink that we follow the prescriptions (plural) in all things. One poster called it rightly so "the spirit of time management" .

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 is one prescription we can apply as time managerment . God has set eternity in the heart of man but mankind has no way to know the end of the matter.( the end of faith) And the spirit of time management should be coupled with another prescription for what I consider rightly dividing the parables called mixing faith. Mixing the things seen the temporal corrupted with the things of God not seen the eternal .In that way we can have a better outcome when rightly diving in order to seek His approval. The spirit of time management" Therefore mankind cannot know anything of his future as they walk by faith mixing of the temporal corrupted with the us unseen eternal. Interestingly the word temporal to define corrupted is used once in the whole Bible (King James)

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

We walk by the eternal faith of Christ as it is written not seen mixed with the temporal .Not after the corrupteed flesh of a corrupted creation (The whole) the temporal .

In that we we can fix the eyes of our new born again hearts on Christ the author and finisher of our salavation. Receiving the end from the very beginning .

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Uselly we have a 4 step process of falling into sin.........

1. We Look.
2. We Desire.
3. We obtain.
4. We involve others.

Example: First, David was strolling in the evening on the roof of his palace when he saw a beautiful woman bathing in an adjacent house. Sin always begins with sight, or some sensual exposure.

Second, David "sent and inquired after the woman." Had he not given in to his lust for the bathing woman, he would never have sent for information about her. In essence, he desired her and lusted after her when he knew he could not have her.

Third, David sent messengers, and took her.

To have the king commit adultery was bad enough; but sin is never a private matter. It always involves others. Thus the fourth step in David's sin was to involve an innocent party in his sin. In this case the innocent party was Uriah the Hittite, the husband of Bathsheba.

I wish that there was some kind of magic formula I could post for all of you so that you and me would not folloe David, but als there is none that I know of.

I would say however that Lingering at the door of sin is an open invitation to enter that door, and David stayed too long on the top of his roof while viewing the bathing Bathsheba. Had he fled from the presence of temptation, he would not have entered the cycle of sin.

You and I must flee temptation and the presence of evil if we would remain true to God. None of us has developed a resistant strain to the bacteria of sin.

In other words, the child of God can not read Playboy magazine on Saturday night, and then go to church on Sunday morning as if everything is alright.
