Lyrics of the Day!

Original Song

This is probably the shortest hymn\song
for the Lord you'll ever see!

It's an original I wrote many years ago
and I have sung it in many churches and
homes.

Hallelujah,.... Glory to the Lamb

Hallelujah,.... To the Great I Am

Hallelujah,.... Lift up your voice

and sing.

Hallelujah,.... Crown Him King of Kings!

I can't remember all the words to this song, but here is the chorus...

You'll never change, Your love remains...Oh, God...I'm holding on to You!
When I'm afraid, still Your love remains...Oh, God...I'm holding on to You!

Still

Hide me now
under your wings
Cover me
beneath your mighty hand

Chorus:
When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father you are king over the flood
I will be still and know you are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know his power
In quietness and trust

Chorus:
When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father you are king over the flood
I will be still and know you are God

"Rescue the Perishing"
From Heavenly Highway Hymns

Verse 1:
Rescue the persishing, care for the dying, snatch them in pity from sin and the grave; Weep o'er the erring one, lift up the fallen, tell them of Jesus the mighty to save!

Chorus:
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying; Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save!

Verse 2:
Tho they are slighting Him, still He is waiting, waiting the penitent child to receive; Plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently, He will forgive if they only believe!

Chorus

Verse 3:
Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter, feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness, chords that are broken will vibrate once more!

Chorus

Verse 4:
Rescue the perishing, duty demands it; Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide; Back to the narrow way, patiently win them; Tell the poor wand'er a Savior has died!

Chorus

There is none like You

There is none like You
No one else can touch my heart like You do
I could search for all eternity long
And find there is none like You

Your mercy flows like the river wide
And healing comes from Your hands
Sufferring children are safe in Your arms
There is none like You

A song by Poet Voices:

The Key

There is a key, only one key. Unlocking everything. One of a kind.
Put in a place for everyone to see.
There for every "whosoever will" to find.

I can unlock the shackles of sin's prison.
I can open up the very gates of hell.
I can swing wide the doorway up to heaven
All because the key was hung on a nail.

There on the tree they placed the answer
To peace and happiness, to everlasting love.
There on the cross they placed the Savior.
Now the lost below can reach to God above.

I can unlock the shackles of sin's prison,
Even open up the very gates of hell,
I can swing wide the doorway up to heaven
All because the key was hung on a nail.

Christ is the key, the key that frees us.
That's why I'll spend the endless ages praising Jesus!

One of my favorites

This is a Very powerful song. ;)

Let Freedom Ring - as sung by the Gaither Vocal Band

Deep within, the heart has always known that there was freedom
Somehow breathed into the very soul alive.
The prisoner, the powerless, the slave have always known it.
There's something that keeps reaching for the sky.
And even life begins because a baby fights for freedom.
And songs we love to sing have freedom's theme.
Some have walked through fire and flood to find a place of freedom.
And some faced hell itself for freedom's dream.

Let freedom ring where ever minds know what it means to be in chains
Let freedom ring where ever hearts know pain.
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key.
You can be free and you can sing "Let freedom ring".

God built freedom into every fiber of creation.
And He meant for us to all be free and whole.
But when my Lord bought freedom through the blood of His redemption
His cross stamped freedom on my very soul!

I'll sing it out with every breath and let the whole world hear it;
this Hallelujah anthem of the free.
That iron bars and heavy chains can never hold us captive
The Son has made us free, and free indeed!

Let freedom ring down through the ages from a hill called Calvary
Let freedom ring where ever hearts know pain.
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key.
You can be free and you can sing "Let freedom ring".

Are you washed in the Blood?

Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Refrain

Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Refrain

When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Refrain

Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
O be washed in the blood of the Lamb!

Refrain

And Can It Be By Charles Wesley in 1738

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain—
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

’Tis mystery all: th’Immortal dies:
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love divine.
’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father’s throne above
So free, so infinite His grace—
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!
’Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray—
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

Still the small inward voice I hear,
That whispers all my sins forgiven;
Still the atoning blood is near,
That quenched the wrath of hostile Heaven.
I feel the life His wounds impart;
I feel the Savior in my heart.
I feel the life His wounds impart;
I feel the Savior in my heart.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

I think my all-time favorite is a little known song by the Hinsons (Southern Gospel) called "Broken Worthless Vessel". That pretty much sums up my life.

It was a field of rejects where I lay
In a pile the world had thrown away.
Just a broken worthless vessel stained
with years of disregard
thrown away, this piece of clay
that couldn't hold its part.

You know I finally saw one day, just how
quickly sin can shatter a man into a million pieces
that even time could never mend
Suddenly I lay on the scrap heap of humanity
and no one cared.
All alone with my hopes, my dreams, my worth all gone;
my life surely at an end.

But then the Master Potter found me,
said He'd make me whole again.
I cast aside my broken pride
and gladly melted in His hands.

Potter, mold me, till I'm true.
Jesus, make me just like you.
Anything, Lord, to be a vessel for your annointing.
Potter, break me, even more.
Bend me, Jesus, til you're sure
You'd be proud to bring this worthless vessel home.

Currently this is one of my absolute favorite songs. John Mandeville has played at our church several times in the past and has truely been an incredible witness in his life to how God can work through music.

I want what You want
more than I want anything,
I want what you want for me.

Cause Lord Your faithfulness
Like the ocean and the rain
everyday the same
Your word is life
so through the sorrow and the pain
You've taught me how to say (that)

I want what You want
more than I want anything,
I want what you want for me.

Cause Lord Your faithfulness
Like the ocean and the rain
everyday the same
Your word is life
so through the sorrow and the pain
You've taught me how to say (that)

I want what You want
more than I want anything,
I want what you want for me.

This world can analyze and size you up
And throw you on the scales
They can IQ you and run you thorugh
Their rigorous details
They can do their best to rate
And they'll place you on their charts
And then back it up with scientific smarts

But there's more to what you're worth
Than what their human eyes can see

CHORUS
Oh I say the measure of a man
Is not how tall you stand
How wealthy or intelligent you are
'Cause I found out the measure of a man
God knows and understand
For He looks inside to the bottom of your heart
And what's in the heart defines
The measure of a man

Well you can doubt your worth
And search for who you are and where you stand
But God made you in His image
When He formed you in His hands
And He looks at you with mercy
And He sees you through His love
You're His child and that will always be enough

For there's more to what your worth
Than you could ever comprehend

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE
You can spend your life persuing physical perfection
But there's so much more than ever meets the eye
For God looks through the surface
And he defines your worth by what is on the inside

REPEAT CHORUS

(The Measure of a Man, 4Him)

awesome thread!!! my thanks to everyone.... I was not able to get to church today due to severe back spasms and a bit on an ice storm.... so reading these great songs was a real blessing to me... thanks!!!

I am a real music lover myself.... here are a few of my favorites:

others had a few older hymns.... here are 2 of my favorites... this is a powerful song!!

Augustus Toplady
Rock of Ages

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy riven side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure;
Save from wrath and make me pure.

Not the labour of my hands
Can fulfil Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears for ever flow,
All for sin could not atone;
Thou must save, and Thou alone.

Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to the cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress;
Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Saviour, else I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath,
When my eyelids close in death, (*)
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgement throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee."

I like Phil Keaggy's version of this old Irish hymn the best, its on his True Believer album.... he has some bagpipes going in the background, along with his awesome (as always) guitar work.... the hymn itself can be traced back to the 8th century but was modernized several times along the way....

Be Thou My Vision

1. Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

2. Be Thou my Wisdom, Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee, Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

3. Be Thou my battle-shield, sword for my fight,
Be Thou my dignity, Thou my delight.
Thou my soul's shelter, Thou my high tower.
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

4. Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

5. High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'ns Son!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O ruler of all.

here are a few Caedmon's Call songs that have especially ministered to me.... though to be honest it is tough to narrow them down to just a few :)

Shifting Sand

Sometimes I believe all the lies
So I can do the things I should despise
And every day I am swayed
By whatever is on my mind

I hear it all depends on my faith
So I'm feeling precarious
The only problem I have with these mysteries
Is they're so mysterious

And like a consumer I've been thinking
If I could just get a bit more
More than my 15 minutes of faith,
Then I'd be secure

(Chorus)
My faith is like shifting sand
Changed by every wave
My faith is like shifting sand
So I stand on grace

I've begged you for some proof
For my Thomas eyes to see
A slithering staff, a leperous hand
And lions resting lazily

A glimpse of your back-side glory
And this soaked altar going ablaze
But you know I've seen so much
I explained it away

Chorus

Waters rose as my doubts reigned
My sand-castle faith, it slipped away
Found myself standing on your grace
It'd been there all the time

(Chorus repeated)

Stand on grace"

There You Go

Is this the strange feeling
Of you working all to good
'Cause I am so confused
I don't even ask for what I should

When I asked for and deserved a stone
You broke and gave your body as bread
And even the stone that dropped down and rolled away
Spoke of the one who bled

There you go working good from my bad
There you go making robes from my rags
There you go melting crowns from my calves
There you go working good of all I have
Till all I have's not that bad

When I asked for and deserved a serpent
You gave a net full of fish
And even the serpent that told the lie
When lifted high foretold the gift

For you so loved the unlovable
That you gave the ineffable
That who so believes the unbelievable
Will gain the unattainable"

Thankful

I ran across an old box of letters
While I was bagging up some clothes for Goodwill
You know I had to laugh that the same old struggles
That plagued me then are plaguing me still
I know the road is long from the ground to glory
But a boy can hope he's getting some place
But you see, I'm running from the very clothes I'm wearing
And dressed like this I'm fit for the chase

No, there is none righteous
Not one who understands
There is none who seek God
No not one, no not one

I am thankful that I'm incapable
Of doing any good on my own

'Cause we're all stillborn and dead in our transgressions
We're shackled up to the sin we hold so dear
So what part can I play in the work of redemption
I can't refuse, I cannot add a thing

'Cause I am just like Lazarus and I can hear your voice
I stand and rub my eyes and walk to You
Because I have no choice

Chorus
I am thankful that I'm incapable
Of doing any good on my own
I'm so thankful that I'm incapable
Of doing any good on my own

It's by grace I have been saved
Through faith that's not my own
It is the gift of God and not by works
Lest anyone should boast

this is sung by Phil Keaggy but is a poem by someone else... can't recall the name right now.... anyways... since Phil has around 50 albums, again its tough to narrow them down to just a few... but here are 3 for now......

MORNING LIGHT (from "Play Thru Me")

On a hill stands a cross, still shining fair,
As the sun when the night has turned into day,
Bright as day, still it shines bright as day.

And from it love's pure light,
Ever flowing to cleanse the heart, bring life,
Drive the sin far away,
See it wash it all away, far away.

To this cross eyes of men are ever turning,
Today just as they did in days gone by,
And for the love of God,
Their hearts are ever yearning
Like men at sea in search of morning light.

Awake, awake our hearts to hear the echos,
Your words resound at the dawning.
And all day we taste a love that is undying,
And all day in praise for the morning light.

LOVE BROKE THRU (from "Love Broke Thru")

Like a dreamer that was trying to build
A highway to the sky
All my hopes would come tumblin down
And I never knew just why
Until today when You pulled away the clouds
That hung like curtains on my eyes.
I was blind all these wasted years when
I thought I was so wise.
But then You took me by surprise.

Like waking up from the longest dream
How real it seemed
Until Your love broke through
And I was lost in a fantasy
That blinded me
Until your love broke through.

All my life I have been searching
For that crazy missing part
With one touch You just rolled away
The stone that held my heart,
Now I see that the answer was a simple
As my need to let love in
And I am so sure I could never doubt
Your gentle touch again
It's like the power of the wind.

Like waking up from the longest dream
How real it seemed
Until Your love broke through
And I was lost in a fantasy
That blinded me
Until your love broke through.

one of my favorite anti-abortion songs of all time is

LITTLE ONES (from "Ph'Lip Side")

Who will speak up for the little ones?
Helpless and half-abandoned.
They've got the right to choose life
They don't want to lose,
I've got to speak up, won't you?

Equal rights, equal time, for the unborn children.
Their precious lives are on the line,
How can we be rid of them?
Passing laws, passing out
Bills and new amendments.
Pay the cost and turn about,
And face the young defendants.

Who will speak up for the little ones?
Helpless and half-abandoned.
They've got the right to choose life
They don't want to lose,
I've got to speak up, won't you?

Many come and many go,
Conceived but not delivered.
The toll is astronomical,
How can we be indifferent.

Little hands, little feet,
Tears for Him who made you.
Should all on earth forsake you now,
But He'll never forsake you.

Who will speak up for the little ones?
Helpless and half-abandoned.
They've got the right to choose life
They don't want to lose,
I've got to speak up, won't you?

Forming hearts, forming minds,
Quenched before awakened,
For so many deliberate crimes
The earth will soon be shaken.

Little hands, little feet,
Tears for Him who made you.
Should all on earth forsake you now,
But He'll never forsake you.

Who will speak up for the little ones?
Helpless and half-abandoned.
They've got the right to choose life
They don't want to lose,
I've got to speak up, won't you?

Some lyrics that put me in perspective of how I am with God.

I dunno about you gus, but recently i came to that broken place, where all you can do is seek God, and i think in that place is where your cry is most sincere...Its by a band called RED and they deal with new metal rock but are a band unafraid to say that they are lovers of Jesus Christ.

I'm here again
A thousand miles away from you
A broken mess, just scattered pieces of who I am
I tried so hard
Thought I could do this on my own
I've lost so much along the way

Then I'll see your face
I know I'm finally yours
I find everything I thought I lost before
You call my name
I come to you in pieces
So you can make me whole

I've come undone
But you make sense of who I am
Like puzzle pieces in your eye

Then I'll see your face
I know I'm finally yours
I find everything I thought I lost before
You call my name
I come to you in pieces
So you can make me whole!

I tried so hard! So hard!
I tried so hard!

Then I'll see your face
I know I'm finally yours
I find everything I thought I lost before
You call my name
I come to you in pieces
So you can make me whole
So you can make me whole

Once again by Brittany Borland. (I've met her :) )
I love this song.

(I had to type this all XP Lucky I have the CD)

Lord, I've walked away, once again
Lord, I've doubted your name, once again
Lord, I've broken your heart, once again
Lord, I've torn us apart once again.

Lord, my hearts gone astray, once again
Lord, I'm covered in shame, once again
Lord, my faith has been shattered again
Lord, I've lost all that mattered again.

(Chorus) Father I'm searching the heavens
above. Holding my doubts like I'm falling in
love, but I try to reach for your hand that
reached for my heart.

(Bridge) Once again I'm on my knees
Once again in slavery
Once again I shout my cry
Once again you justify
Everything I have done, once again
Every time I have run, once again
Once again I sence your smile and once
again you save your child!

To hear it go to here and click: Once again. (It's only 30 seconds :( )

I have been really enjoying some Todd Agnew lately:

Only one thing cannot fail
Only one thing will never die
Only one thing is sure and stable
Even when I turn and turn and turn
Only one thing, deeper than the ocean
Only one thing is higher still
Only one thing has such devotion
Waiting arms wide until my will gives way

Your love reaches across the miles I raced
To separate me from You
Your love cradles me like a child when I finally reach for you
Your love's beyond my understanding
Only one thing

Only one thing is always faithful
Only one thing is ever pure
Only one thing, completely able
Only one thing will endure forever

Chorus

I could sing of Your love forever

Chorus
