There are four of God's creatures listed in this verse. Great analogues can be made using the four. I would like first to discuss this part first.
:............Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.( in context 14-17)
We know from OT reading that doves were used sacrifically for sins or according to your financial needs.
Dove represents a type of purity.
What made me desire to discuss this is when I'm outside early dawn,we have a dove in one of the trees. Its soft gentle cooing is sweet to hear and soothing to the spirit. We also have crows, need i say more !
Lol that could be a good lesson !
Jesus was preparing his 12 ( TWELVE even Judas ) disciple to go forth and carry the gospel to the lost sheep of Israel. This is whom God sent Jesus to, the Father's wife, Israel .He did tell them HE HAD SHEEP OF ANOTHER FOLD! (Gentiles)another lesson)
Jesus told them not to go prepared to finance themselves or give any thought to their comfort, but they would find those willing to hear and give lodging to them. [ God always perpares the way when he says GO....]
He also told them the whole of this verse that he was sending them out as sheep in the midst of wolves.
We know that the beginning of wisdom ,is the fear of the Lord. I believe that wisdom is the end result of knowledge ( w/O knowledge the ppl perish) for we are to STUDY TO SHOW OURSELVES APPROVED OF GOD. Then we are to get understanding, what the word means spiritually. Wisdom is having the knowledge, understanding it's implications and wisdom is to know when and how to apply to self and others.
He said be WISE as serpents. Who is that ole serpent ? The one that decieved Adam & Eve, and continues to deceive the whole world ! I do not believe the ole devil is wise but rather crafty, deceitful, loves evil, uses trickery to lead astray, can even manifest as light to fool ppl.
What say you would be defined as wise as serpents ?
Harmless as doves. We are instructed throughout the word to be blamess, and harmless so as not to give the devil occasion to use us for evil.
Please post in respect and love to one another.
