Pastor Invites People to Bring Guns to Church

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky pastor is inviting people to bring their guns to church to celebrate the Fourth of July and the Second Amendment.
New Bethel Church is welcoming "responsible handgun owners" to wear their firearms inside the church on June 27, a Saturday.
An ad says there will be a handgun raffle, patriotic music and information on gun safety.

This was just too interesting not to share with Y'All!! :D

I'm sure he's got his reasons and he and his flock probably think it's great fun, but anyone with an ounce of discernment, not to mention wisdom and plain common sense, would know that the news media would just lap it up. They love anything they can use to portray christians as a lunatic fringe that have no place in a balanced civilized society. And what can look worse than gun-toting loonies.:(

I think it would be more powerful if they came loaded with rakes, buckets, and ladders, spread out into their neighborhood and offered to mow some lawns, or pull weeds, wash windows or do something for anyone with needs. Just my thinking.

I'm with you on that. What are they thinking? My guess they weren't.

I am not taking sides on this one, but perhaps some background information might be in order to better understand the situation.

The state of Kentucky allows responsible adults who have gone through a significant amount of state sponsored and required training and state licensing to carry DEFENSIVE firearms for the purpose of personal protection of one's self and loved ones from those individuals who perpetrate crime.

The current USA national government has gone on the record as saying that it is their intent to dismantle the Second Ammendment to the United States Constitution to DISARM all law abiding USA firearms owners. This US government socialist agenda of taking away 200 year old rights and personal guarantees, that are contained in the US Constitution, is creating a grass roots backlash against the intrusion of the current government into the lives of US citizens.

It is my opinion that the Pastor of that church is throwing the socialist agenda back in the face of those who would take away the God inspired Rights contained in the US Constitution. Pastors who mainain a non-profit status can not politicize from the pulpit without having their non profit status revoked. However, Pastors can and do allow events such as this one, without saying a word from the pulpit - and just allow the congregation to do the speaking.

The Constitutional disassembly agenda of the current US government is totally opposite to the fine Christian values that have made the USA great over the past 200+ years. To have that history of goodness and righteousness disolved, is a dangerous thing for the citizens of this country to allow to happen.

Again, I am not taking sides on this issue - but the reasons for doing things such as those mentioned in the news article, can only be properly understood if ALL the facts are presented - not just the skewed, one sided facts as presented originally by a liberally owned and run media outlet in Kentucky.

As a Christian and a responsible gun owner, I see nothing at all wrong with this. Have you been paying attention to the number of church shootings in the news lately? A couple of Google searches will show more church shootings that you care to count.

My belief is that the founding fathers put the Second Amendment in place to protect us from the government. Look at history. When the populace loses the right to defend themselves, their other rights will soon disapear. If you cherish the right to attend the church of your choice and worship your God on Sunday then be glad that the Second Amendment is still in place. When it goes away, the First will follow closely on it's heels.

These are some really interesting responses to this article.

I've been teaching firearm safety here at the church for quite some time, and I lead our youth group in target shooting, care, handling, and responsibility.

Sweet Surrender, I agree with what you said, we also have a "Leave and Leave" and a "Mow and Go" day.

That's when the kids run into a yard, rake the leaves, mow, and GO!....
They refuse money, and don't even say where they are from, but as a congregation, we have a responsibility to our community to spread the Gospel not only by Word but also by our actions.

I guess that's how I look at the firearm safety classes. I feel that as a shepherd, I am responsible to make sure that this flock is safely trained, that they know how to handle a firearm, how to safely care for and use it.

They learn respect, they learn to account for every person and make sure no one is in front of the firing line, things like that.

My belief is that the founding fathers put the Second Amendment in place to protect us from the government.
No doubt about that Oakville Shooter. And I thank God for reminding them to do so.
That's another thing these kids learn, freedom don't come free. And if you don't protect it, somebody, (Who shall remain nameless), is going to steal it from you. So you had best be ready to stand up for your rights.

Like the Pastor of this church said, scripture is clear that arms should be taken up in certain instances, and when and if that happens, he (and I) want to make sure that our members are well prepared for battle.

Mat 10:28 Don't be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell.

I guess it's time as a Canadian to put my two cents in .. From the way I see it what will they gain from doing that ? They will only get non- Christians to think of the church in a very negative way .

If we as Christians cannot rely on God to protect us then we become Christians stemmed in fear and we are told that fear comes from satan .

Romans 8:15
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."

We were never given a spirit of fear but a sound mind .

At least here we are not allowed to own a gun and the ordinary guy does not walk around with a gun .

I think your gun laws need to be tightened.

N. B. Please do not shoot the messenger for this post .

There was a church killing several days ago in a community not that far away from this one.

THIS here event is being staged to send a message to any dirtbags who would do a similar deed there - to think twice.

We're instructed in 1 Timothy 5:8 (KJV) - " 8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."

We're Christians and we're required by scripture to protect our loved ones and our brothers and sisters in Christ.

That's impossible to do in socialist styled countries, such as Canada, the UK, Australia and many more, where the people have been stripped of their God-given rights of self protection and self preservation. :(:(

N. B. Please do not shoot the messenger for this post .
"Shoot the messenger!" [That's a nice pun!] :D

Never, this is a cultural difference.

As much as I love and respect you, our brothers and sisters to the north, you were not raised with a 2nd amendmend.
An absolute God given right, NOT to have any government stick it's greedy, facist, socialistic, communist face in your private business.

When a person is raised generation after generation without that predicament, they tend to get more than a little defensive about their human rights. :)

If we as Christians cannot rely on God to protect us then we become Christians stemmed in fear and we are told that fear comes from satan .
Fear? What fear?
This isn't about fear, it is about my God given right to keep and to bear any method of protection I see fit to carry.
Any human being should have a right to carry a knife, or to pick up a stick to peer into a hole with, or to throw a rock at someone who has invaded their home.

I'm not afraid of getting robbed, I just happen to insist, that "IF" someone attempts to rob me, or harm my family, that I have the "right" to throw something at them. ;)

At least here we are not allowed to own a gun and the ordinary guy does not walk around with a gun .
I've been carrying a gun since I was a kid.
My kids carry guns. My kids have owned and carried guns since they were 5 and 6 years old?
No one has ever been hurt.
I have a rifle, (.270) and a 12 gauge in the back window of my truck in the gun rack.

I have a .25 semi auto in the glove box, and I seldom go anywhere without a Ruger 9.mm in the holster on my lower back.
That's just the way I am. Me and tens of thousands of other people who grew up with no fear of guns or freedoms.

I have had to pop a smart mouth drunk in the nose a time or two in my life, but pulling my gun, has never crossed my mind in any situation. No more than pulling out the knife I carry on my hip.

If the guy beats me up, oh well.
Guess I got beat up. (Wouldn't be the 1st time!) :D

I think your gun laws need to be tightened.
Honestly, I don't know how they could be tighter????

Felons CAN NOT! own a firearm. Dope dealers, perverts, rapists, people who have EVER at ANY TIME EVER had a firearm conviction, can never own a gun again as long as they live.

I could go on and on.
It is illegal to carry a gun into a court, any place that sells booze, schools, police stations, you arent allowed to point guns at people....etc...etc...etc..

But somehow, even with all of the laws, people still manage to kill and to hurt one another.

Go figure.

2nd amendment: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I like it.
Simple,
to the point,...
easy to remember. :D

Ride4theSon, you have some excellent points and make them very well. Thank you.

Dusty, with all due respect, I am not scared. If Heaven is half as good as we are told to believe that it is, I am ready to go right now. Truth is, I think that it is way better than we, as humans, could ever imagine. So yes, I am ready to go. I am ready when the Father calls me. Not when some crack head decides that he wants my wallet, or my car, or whatever, and is willing to use a gun to get it. Now if that is my time to go, and the way God wants it to be, I will die anyway.

Truthfully, I am not that concearned about myself. However, as a husband and a father, it is my duty and responsibility to do everything in my power to protect my wife and my son.

You made the comment:

Really? Do you wear a seat belt when riding in a car? Do you have a fire extinguisher and/or smoke alarm in your house? If so, why? God will protect us, right? Do you have a job so that you can earn money to buy food with? We shouldn't have to should we? We have all read about the manna and quail falling out of the sky and the water coming out of the rock. God will provide for His people. So why do we work? Although it is not written anywhere in the scriptures, it is a common saying that God helps those that help themselves.

I realize that you are not American. I also understand that everybody is entitled to their opinions on this subject and others. I just want to point out that I wore the uniform of my country for six years so that these people have the right to express their opinions. I take my rights seriously! I support all the amendments, not just the first two.

Stepping down from my soap box now.

I'm not afraid of wolves either but I don't see the need to wear a pork chop around my neck into a pack of them to prove it.

If one is willing to kill or risk being killed for the material things of this world , it says a whole lot about what they value the most.

Now if that is my time to go, and the way God wants it to be, I will die anyway.
, Exactly . . . Having or not having a gun isn't going to change that .
The only differance having a gun makes is the image one displays of Christ before the world.

Then, , , I suggest we put away the toys and protect ourselves and loved ones from the second death. Drop the guns and pick up the word of God. Concern ourselves with the eternal life ,not the temperary one. For the word of God is mighter than all the weapons of the world.

Please brother .Don't confuse the Constitution with the word of God
There are far too many who already don't know the differance. when this world ends all the governments and laws of man die with it and that includes the 2nd ameddment
We are called to live as peacably as we can with all people
Somehow,Toting guns to church as a display of force and intent doesn't quite give the idea of intent on peace, to me.

So what goes here??? If you don't have a gun strapped to your hip ,you can't get in or do they give ya one????
