practical holiness

THE text which heads this page opens up a subject of deep importance. That subject is practical holiness. It suggests a question which demands the attention of all professing Christians-Are we holy? Shall we see the Lord?
That question can never be out of season. The wise man tells us, "There is a time to weep, and a time to laugh-a time to keep silence, and a time to speak" (Eccles. 3:4, 7); but there is no time, no, not a day, in which a man ought not to be holy. Are we?
That question concerns all ranks and conditions of men. Some are rich and some are poor-some learned and some unlearned-some masters, and some servants; but there is no rank or condition in life in which a man ought not to be holy. Are we?
I ask to be heard today about this question. How stands the account between our souls and God? In this hurrying, bustling world, let us stand still for a few minutes and consider the matter of holiness. I believe I might have chosen a subject more popular and pleasant. I am sure I might have found one more easy to handle. But I feel deeply I could not have chosen one more seasonable and more profitable to our souls. It is a solemn thing to hear the Word of God saying, "Without holiness no man shall see the Lord" (Heb. 12:14).
I shall endeavour, by God's help, to examine what true holiness is, and the reason why it is so needful. In conclusion, I shall try to point out the only way in which holiness can be attained. I have already, in the second paper in this volume, approached this subject from a doctrinal side. Let me now try to present it to my readers in a more plain and practical point of view.

Praise the Lord ! I found this oldie but goodie.......
I am of the firm persuasion that holiness before God is a looked over doctrine. God Himself tells us to be holy because He is holy.
Separated from the world (not isolated) and unto Him for Him.

God is holy and yet He destroys the wicked ..
Jesus was God .. Jesus was filled with the HS ..
Jesus was righteous .. Jesus was without "blemish" ..
yet He made "a whip from ropes", He called the Pharisees "brood of vipers" ..
so holy must mean to be without blame ..
and if through continued rejection, then it is upon God Himself to deal out retribution ..
I don't think any human can deal out retribution without inserting their own ego in ..
hence why God says "vengeance is mine" .. because if we did it, we would not be blameless and defile ourselves .. my 2 cents ..

The Hebrew word kodesh, or holiness, means to purify or sanctify. God is the ultimate source of all holiness. Psalm 145:17 says:"The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in his works." Leviticus 20:7 commands: "Sanctify yourselves therefore and be holy: for I am the Lord your God."
God leaves no room for doubt in regard to His desire for us to be holy.

קֹדֶשׁ qodesh means "sacred" ..
ancient Hebrew and modern Hebrew are not the same thing ..

example:
Exd 3:5 Then He said, “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is qodesh ground.”

Holiness is summed up in loving your neighbour and God. It is not about works lest any man boast, but if you don't love your neighbour and God your faith is dead. You can know all mysteries and still be like banging brass and sounding cymbals so. Some call holiness suffering, but Christsaid he came so they might have life more abundantly.

Holinesss is a an honor, it's an honor to be sepatated unto Jesus

Romans 12:1-2
King James Version (KJV)
12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Shouldn't the topic be listing traits? For instance fornicatiob which derrives from the word pornea from Greek is where we get the term pornography.

I agree although I really do not feel that too many people including myself need a whole lot of instruction in that area because we are born with corrupt or a sin nature, you don't have to teach a little child to be naughty -they will figure that out on their own but, you must teach them what is right.
Hebrews 12:14
King James Version (KJV)
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
[It is not enough to know the Word, to know about holiness and righteousness. Our life must be an embodimentnof obedience to its mandates. The key ingredient is love, in particular our love for Him. The more love, the more power to obey.]-*****taken from the book The Joy Of Holiness by Wesley Shaw, PHD*****

It says live at peace as much as possible. Surely you don't mean to say Christ and the early Christians weren't loving enuff when they preached the word. It still caused backlash but does that somehow make them wrong or the word they spoke null and void, Honestly. If you don't need any instruction find a hill some where. Cause clearly I'm just getting in the way.

Peace out my friend.....you don't need to talk yo me that way. I was simply making a point that all people have sin nature and can fall into sin without help. I don't know where in the world you came up that I meant that Christ and the early Christians weren't loving enough ?

Being holy

Sorry. I don't get it. Was just trying to add. Well part of practical holiness I think is understanding what unholiness is.

holy is sacred .. so your example of the Greek you gave was good .. because our bodies are suppose to be a temple .. not just are hearts, minds and souls .. but our bodies too ..

perhaps God is giving you an opportunity to instruct him what love is ..
God indeed works in mysterious ways ..

God Bless you ..
