Precious Gifts - Week 15

Light

The earth was covered with darkness, and God created light.

Genesis 1:3
Then God said, "Let there be light" and there was light.

The first thing God gave the earth was light, and He used light for the benefit of the Israelites, when He rescued them from the Egyptians, which allowed them to travel by day or night... As written in Exodus 13:20-22.

Can you imagine what life would be like without any physical light?

Spiritual Light

John 8:12 (NLT)

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said,

"I am the light of the world. If you follow me you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."

How precious is that gift!

The apostles were later told that they were the 'light of the world' and to let their light shine before men.

If we follow Jesus, we have the light.
How can we let our light shine?

The Sky

But how often do we think of the sky as a gift
Genesis 1:6 (NLT)

β€Š"Then God said "Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.'
God separated the waters and called the space 'sky'."

Yet when we look time and again
To see if it warns us of rain
A red sky could be the warning
Of a rain storm for the next morning.

When you see a rainbow so bold
God keeps His promise of old.
The rain will eventually pass away,
Tomorrow may be a sunnier day.

If God hadn't created the sky
How could the sun sit so high?
From where would the stars shine bright?
And how could the birds take flight?

Thank you dear LORD for the sky!

The Land and the Sea

Genesis 1: 9-10 (NLT)

"9. Then God said, "Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear. And that is what happened. 10. God called the dry ground "land" and the waters "seas." And God saw that it was good."

When I read the gathering of the waters, it brought to mind how we gather the Word of God together to understand what is being said. Then we meet other Christians and searchers and gather together to praise, fellowship and learn. And just like the sea, we become stronger.

Psalm 93: 3-4
"3. The floods have risen up, O Lord. The floods have roared like thunder; the floods have lifted their pounding waves. 4. But mightier than the raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore - The LORD is mightier than these!"

Just as the seas get storms, some severe, so do Christ's followers as Satan tries to rob us of our faith. But Jesus promised to be with us, even to the end of the world, and no-one can snatch us from God's hand.

So let us thank the Lord for creating the sea, later to be a home for the fish. How useless would be a ship if there were no seas?

How wonderful to watch waves lapping up to the shore. God is Good. God is mightier than any storm.
God Bless.

The land and seed bearing vegetation

Genesis 1:11 (NLT)

11 Then the Lord said, "Let the land sprout vegetation - every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed bearing fruit, these seeds will then produce the kinds of trees and plants from which they came." And that is what happened.

God created many different kinds of trees, fruits and vegetables, that are seed bearing.
He left us many choices.

Food keeps our body and mind healthy as well as being enjoyable. We have an extremely generous God.
All this was created in readiness before animals, birds and man, appeared on earth; just like we prepare for the coming birth of a new baby. Everything would be ready for us, including the beautiful flowers, made the same day as these other seed bearing plants.

Herbs, flowers, fruit, and vegetables have all been used as medicinal purposes through the ages, as well as for food.

So many different flowers - God's love is endless. If we are feeling down we can drink in the beauty of a park or garden and feel refreshed.

When Jesus returns, all creation will praise God. How wonderful will that be.
God saw it all and said it was good.

Genesis 8:22 (NLT)
22 As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.

Sun, Moon and Stars

Genesis 1:16-17

16. God made two great lights - the larger one to govern the day and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars.
17. God set these lights in the sky to light the earth.

Our God created more light for the earth. The Sun brings us warmth as well as bright light. The sun helps the plants to grow, and the flowers lift up their faces. It also provides essential vitamin D, and so helps our health in various ways
It can even put a smile on our face.

The moon shines down in a gentle way and guides us through the months and seasons.

The stars twinkle through the night on their journeys around the earth.

How many times have we lifted our heads to see if the night sky is red, as it tells us of the following mornings weather? Or perhaps just to enjoy the moon and stars shining down on us.

It is all so beautiful, but God gives us a warning;

Deuteronomy 4:19 (NLT)
"When you look up into the sky and see the sun, moon, and stars - all the forces of heaven - Don't be seduced into worshiping them. The LORD God gave them to all the people's of the earth."

Let's enjoy them and worship God, thanking Him for the precious Gifts.

Precious Gifts - Week 20

Fish and Birds.

Genesis 1:20 (NLT)

Then God said, "Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind."
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†

Fish were born both big and small,
some did swim, and some did crawl.
All the creatures in the sea
Moved about completely free.

Some were smooth, others had scales.
Scaly cod and flat skinned whales.
God made many colored fish
Some look tasty in a dish.

Birds how many in the sky?
Hear them sing and watch them fly!
Sitting in their cosy nest
they all know they have been blest

Lifting joyful voices sing
Praising God their holy King.
Blackbirds fill the morning air
With awesome songs in pairs.

Robins wait for dusk to sing
Sounds of beauty now they bring.
Thank you Lord for all you made;
And lift our voices up in praise.

Precious Gifts - Week 21

God's Animals

Genesis 1:25

25. God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.

β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†

God loved the animals and looked after them.

Psalm 104:10-18
10. He sends rivers into the valleys. They flow between the mountains.
11. They give water to all the animals of the field. The wild donkeys drink until they are no longer thirsty.
12. The birds of the sky nest beside them. They sing among the branches.
13. He waters the mountains from his home above. The earth is filled with the fruit of his work.
14. He makes the grass grow for the cattle, and for man to use, so that he may bring food from the earth.
15. Wine that makes man's heart glad, oil to make his face shine, and food to make his heart strong.
16. The tall Cedar trees that God planted in the Lebanon drink their fill.
17. The birds make their nest there. The stork has its nest in the green trees.
18. The high mountains are for the wild goats. The rocks are a safe place for the badgers.

β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†

So God created the animals, and He loved them and looked after them.
We too, should love them and look after them.

Proverbs 12:10
The godly care for their animals,
The wicked are always cruel.

Precious Gifts - Week 22

Gifts to Adam

Genesis 2:15

The Lord God placed the man he had made into The Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†

God saw that it was not good for man to be alone, so He created Eve to be Adam's helper. He did not want Adam to be alone.

β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†
God placed Adam into His beautiful garden. Adam had permission to eat any vegetables and herbs that sprang up from the ground. Also, any fruit from the beautiful trees except that from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

As we all know Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit.
Even so God made Gifts for them; clothing made from animal skin, to cover their nakedness.
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†

God had made all the animals, he said they were good. Sometimes when we get animals we enjoy giving them their names.

But what did God do?
And how did God name all his animals?

Genesis 2:19

"So the LORD God formed all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and he chose names for each one."

How Great is the LORD'S love?
How generous is He!

Precious Gifts - Week 23

The MOST Precious Gift - Jesus

John 3:16
(NLT)
This is how God loved the world, He gave us his one and only son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Would we do that? Give our only son to suffer and die, like Jesus did. This was the only way that we could be saved. God could have wiped humanity out, but His love for us was greater than that.

Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.

It is amazing love, that although God knew before we were created, the sins that we would do, He chose us. The Father knew that we would believe and love his spotless Son.

Jesus suffered agony for us, He was without sin, yet he willingly died on the cross for you and me.
Jesus gave us this promise:

John 14:3
When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.

β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†

Thank you Father for the gift of Jesus.
Thank you Jesus for being so willing.
Thank you God for loving us so much.
We love you Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
