Question About Pharaoh

Question About Pharaoh

Okay - so God hardened the heart of Pharaoah so that he wouldn't let the people go...

I'm having some trouble understanding this one.

God was using Pharaoah to fulfill the destiny of His people? He hardened Pharaoah's heart?

Does that mean that Pharaoah was, even by doing wrong, following the plan that God had laid out for him?

Thanks for your thoughts on this, I'd really like to understand it better.

Oh, what an interesting question that I don't have an answer for....but I understand exactly what you are asking!
Can this be a case of God knowing the future and using that knowledge to fulfill His purpose?

Exactly!:)

I was watching Prince of Egypt last night and then it got me curious, so I started reading...and then this question came to mind.

...and then it just kind of spun there without an answer.

[Sprout told me to watch Prince of Egypt because he never saw it before *giggle*]

Does Sprout like 'extra butter' popcorn? :)

I think you and I were twins, separated at birth!

you see if pharoh knew he followed false gods, then so would his people, there is a lot to learn.

Yeah, I was thinking about, Smelly...they had more false gods than they could shake a stick at.

But the glory of the Lord is that - even with all those false gods - God was able to harden Pharaohs heart with just a slight thought.

He truly is incredible...

This is definitely one of those tough ones.

Adam Clarke makes an excellent commentary on this.

if you have a false god,how do you reason with the true God.then all your beliefs are folly.many men think this way that they are correct.some don,t take truth with open arms.:)

Scripture is quite plain about this. I know it doesn't fit some folks theology-
Rom 9:15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
Rom 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
Rom 9:17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
Rom 9:18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
Rom 9:19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
Rom 9:20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
Rom 9:22What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
Rom 9:23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

Thanks, everybody, for your replies.

I'm beginning to understand this, I think.

Can you imagine Pharaoh...believing in all of those false gods? And then BAM!

In one instant, coming face to face with the One True God?

Talk about: Ooops.

Perhaps your best post ever, Smelly. Praise God that there is always hope for everyone, though! :israel:
