Just thought I'd share a few things our area churches are uniting together to do.
Many times it seems that our churches are in competition against each other. We see this with churches of the same denomination, as well as those that are different. They sometimes forget we are all on the same team. No matter what the denomination is.
The churches mentioned below are not all of the same denomination- but they all love Christ!
Food pantry- one of the larger churches runs a food pantry, several other area churches help with the funding, donations, and distribution. They coordinate together to hold an annual fun-raising "festival", and work together to volunteer as needed with all that needs doing.
Regular community dinners- several area churches provide monthly free dinners for their community. Most of the churches have been really good at supporting each other with this type of outreach to their communities. It has been a good way to bring the people into the churches and show them we care about them.
5th Sunday night singing- each time there is a 5th Sunday in a month, the churches will take turns hosting an evening service of singing. We have about four churches that participate, so that each church gets to host the event one time each year. After singing, everyone enjoys fellowship with some really good food/refreshments. This has been a really good at helping to bring the churches together in unity, and has helped with uplifting, refreshing, and motivating people.
Autumn hay ride- we have two area churches that both have hay rides each year. This past year we were able to get the two churches to come together and hold a combined event. It was awesome! Hamburgers, hotdogs, smores, hot chocolate, bouncy houses, hay ride... There were so many smiling faces and the children, (and adults), all had fun. Now everyone can't wait to do it again this year!
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
[Psalm 133:1 KJV]
