Romans 12:1

Romans 12:1 says, "Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters,
by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and
holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship."

Which is to say, in my interpretation:
I implore you, church, through God's mercies,
offer up your physical bodies as a living sacrifice, without blame, which
is repented (agreeing) with God, which is a form of spiritual worship.

What do you take from this?
Would you add anything or do you see my interpretation differently?

Agree with Via.

This is saying pretty much what is said in Romans chapter 6.

4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be [a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been [b]freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,

We can see here when you place your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ you are buried with Him through baptism into death - which is to mortify our earthly desires and look towards heavenly desires instead - Because Christ was risen from the dead by the glory of the Father - even so we also to are raised (spiritually into new life) by the spirit that is given to us from God (Romans 5:5).

That we should operate now by the spirit rather than the fleshly ways which can be seen by our heart content spoken by Jesus Christ in (Mark 7:20-23), we do not judge people nor condemn but if anything the spirit inside of us battles against the flesh and the flesh battles against the spirit. (Romans 5:1-5)(Galatians 5:17, James 4:1, 1 Peter 2:11, Romans 6:19)

In the scripture you are sharing, Paul is telling the saints at Rome to fight to live by the spirit, not the flesh.

Have a great day, thank you for asking and sharing.

as an add on Matthew, what do you mean by mortify earthly desires?

That is a great question, via.

Colossians 3:1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[b] 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Just for clarity : This is not a war against people and judging them, and condemning others. (I was a proud prideful Christian during my first walk but still had a big problem with drugs, and pornography.)

God condemned me. This is a war between yourself (Flesh vs the spirit) and God to go to him and ask him to help you with these things that plague your heart and in your life. It is not a war with other people and what they are doing. Just a great reminder.

Thank you for your question Via. : Gonna go now, shower, and then make lunch for work have a great day!!

I think that Paul is saying something like this ...

I appeal to you fellow Christians, by all the mercies and grace that God has shown to each of us, that we commit our lives to God as a living sacrifice; in other words, that we should strive to be good Christian witnesses in how we live our lives each day—being kind and Christ-like in our actions to those around us—living our lives holy and acceptable to our Father.

Great insight here. Thank you for the fellowship and worship we are
delighting in here. I second what MatthewG has stated above.

If Jesus didn't come to condemn the world then who am I to do so?

I would suggest it’s a reminder to us to recognize where are help comes from. . . . . His mercy working in our earthen bodies of death.

The loving commandment ("offer your bodies as living) As new creatures we can offer in it view of his mercy. Not before his mercy. I would call it a reminder or wake up call in order to help keep our focus on the things not seen the eternal things of God . (2 Corinthians 4:7-and verse 4:18 ). We can offer because we do have the treasure of His power working in us. Again we can offer a living sacrifice with Him. without him we have no power to please our unseen God . . . Both the father and the Son. . . according to the promised demonstration spoken of in Isaiah 53 the goverment of peace two working in perfect harmony and mutal submission.

Deny the father, deny the Son .Deny the Son, deny the Father . . Two working as one God, one Spirit ,one faith as a work or labor of love that does work in creatures, created in their image

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

Hebrews 6 informs us of its the better things that accompanies salvation in so much that our God will not forget the good works we offer towards his power that works in us with Emanuel …God with us.

Romans 12 in regard to his mercy would seem to be defined in the end of the matter in Romans 13:8-9 In so much that in conclusion we should owe no man nothing except for the continual debt to love one another, reflect the love that we are loved by according to His great mercy .The golden rule of faith . God is Love.

Romans 13:8-9 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Again in view of His mercy that works in us. . work out the salvation knowing it is God who works to both will and empower us to do His good pleasure .Love without murmuring

I would think we can love if we are empowered as it is written. A lovely wake up call.

Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

One of my favorite tunes that made melody in my heart. I call it ; Hey I am not dreaming !

Psalm 139:18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

His Spirit witnesses to ours. . wake up hear the small voice .

Psalm 121:1-3 King James Version (KJV) I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

I really appreciate you posting this, Garee.
Also, I am sorry for how I have treated you in the past here.
I am learning to know only Christ and He is changing my heart.
