Ruth 4:16-17

Ruth 4:16-17 King James Version (KJV)
16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.

17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Ruth 4:16-17 The Voice (VOICE)

16 Then Naomi held the child tightly in her arms and cared for him. 17 All around her, friends cried out, “Naomi has a son!” They named the child Obed because he would provide for his grandmother. Obed grew up and became the father of Jesse. Jesse, too, became a father one day, the father of David.

16 She was the one to take care of the baby this gave her new joy to life. Sometimes God has a great plan for us around the corner of deep despair.

17 It was tradition that she be accepted as Naomi grandson even thru the tradition of kinsmen redeemer. We see king David is three generations away. God knows the future events of where He is leading us.

This was Naomi's heir, the child who would inherit all that had been her husband and sons possession in Israel. What a blessing that must have been to her. If Ruth had been like Orpah and returned to her own land, Naomi would never have experienced this joy. Praise the Lord, Ruth was willing to belief in the God of Israel!
