Sabbath 12/9/17 Seventh Day Baptist Alfred Station, NY Pastor Ken sermon “This Baby a Priest”

Sabbath 12/9/17 Seventh Day Baptist Alfred Station, NY Pastor Ken sermon “This Baby a Priest” Hebrews 7:11-17, Genesis 14, Hebrews 5:1-10, Psalm 110:1-4, Hebrews 6:20

Jesus came to be our sacrifice for sin. Jesus came to be a high priest for us too. In the scriptures there is a requirement to be a priest. You must come from a certain family in Israel. This is called a Levitical priesthood and it’s from the tribe of Levi. In the book of Numbers, God took the tribe of Levi for His own, to be His priests in His tabernacle. To be a high priest, you had to have a family tie that goes back to Aaron, the first high priest. In verse 11, it was not a perfect priesthood but they were the only ones who could go to the altar. In vs 14, Jesus was not of the tribe of Levi, but of the tribe of Judah.

In Genesis 14, there was a war of kings. The city Sodom was taken and Lot, Abraham’s nephew, was taken too. Abraham gets his soldiers and rescues Lot and all the other victims. Then Melchisedec, King of Salem shows up from nowhere and blesses Abram in vs 18. Melchisedec brought his own bread and wine for them to eat. Does this sound familiar? Then Abraham gives him the Tithe.

In Psalm 110:1-4, the psalm tells us about the coming Messiah. These verses are used in the New Testament by Peter who is talking about Jesus. This scripture says He will be a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec and not Levi. Now go to Hebrews 5 and Hebrews 6:20 to see that Jesus is High Priest after the order of Melchisedec. Jesus is the Perfect Sacrifice for our sins but He is also our Perfect High Priest. God has forgiven us by the Perfect Sacrifice and by the intercession of a Perfect High Priest named Jesus. The baby born in Bethlehem is the Perfect Lord Jesus Christ.

AMEN
