Sabbath 3/4/17 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater, FL Pastor John sermon “Gospel Fellowship” Phil 1:3-11

In our text Paul is talking about people he is separated from while he is in prison. He thinks the relationship he has with these people are an encouragement to him. The relationship is a part of God’s prescription for him. In Hebrews it says we are to NOT forsake the coming together of the saints. We are NOT to skip or avoid going to church! The three “R”’s of this text are:

  1. Remembering: Paul looks back at what these people did for him. The memories of their encouraging words or a pat on the back that helped him. We are to remember the times we shared a blessing with someone. We as Christians know its God who deserves the thanks for our blessing.

  2. Reassurance: We need to be reassured that God has done in the past, is doing in the present AND will do in the future what’s best for us. God wants to use us as a container of His blessing. We should ask God to make us a blessing to someone else. What God has started in us, He will continue until the day of Jesus Christ.

  3. Relationship: A relationship with Jesus should result in relationships with God’s people. Our relationships with others should reflect the values we find in the Word of God. Small churches of 100 or less can be a vital part of strengthening your life in Christ. Small churches let you meet people easier to have relationships than the 4,000 member churches.

  4. Righteousness: What is our level of righteousness in God? Our level of righteousness should be higher this year than it was last year. We get our righteousness from Jesus. God has given us the right to draw on Jesus’s bank account of righteousness. We need to draw on His bank account wisely. We need to work on developing a righteous life because it is pleasing to God. All of us are somewhere on the road to righteousness. We need to check to make sure we are going in the right direction.
Good fellowship can help us go through the tough times of life. May God give us all the strength to grow in righteousness. These things we ask in Jesus’s name.

AMEN
