Sabbath 5/26/18 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Pastor John sermon “A Green Olive Tree in the House of the Lord” Psalm 52:7-9

David wrote that he was a green olive tree in the house of the Lord. He trusted in God’s mercy. After the flood, Noah sent the dove out and she came back with an olive leaf in her mouth. The olive tree had survived the great flood. In Israel and in Cyprus there are olive trees that are 3,000 years old. They are still producing olives. Olives start out small but grow into big trees that have strength and endurance.

In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus went into an olive grove so He could find peace to pray. In the old days olives were not eaten but were pressed to get the olive oil. They used a stone olive press to get the oil but sometime later they found a way to make them taste better so they started eating olives too.

Christians today should be like the tree planted by the stream of water that will not wither or die. The Lord is our safety net. He will never fail us. God will nourish us and provide for us. This is not so for the wicked people. Jesus told us to be rich toward God. When we have an abundance, we should share it with the poor. We should be confident in God that as an olive tree lives to be at least 500 years old, we will be cared for by God forever.

We should NEVER worry or have doubts because God’s mercy, love and care for us will NEVER cease. The Lord will be with us forever and ever. The Lord’s loving kindness will never be removed from us but will last forever and ever! We should give God thanks forever and ever. We will wait on Him. Trust in God forever and ever!
AMEN

Hoping to plant some olive trees in the churchyard this week!!
The thing with olives is they can tolerate arid conditions. They like hot dry summers and cool winters.
