Sabbath 7/21/18 Seventh Day Baptist Alfred Station, NY Pastor Ken sermon “Not By Works” Ephesians 2:8-10

The Word of God is quick and powerful, sharper than a two edge sword. We have all sinned and gone astray and are sinners. We all need a Savior because we are separated from God. We need something to happen to get us back to God. We were dead in our trespasses and sin but Jesus has saved us. We are turned from sinners to saints by Grace thru Faith. It is a gift from God.

Grace is the gift of Jesus Christ. God reaches out to us with Grace. Grace needs to be applied by Faith-believing. Toddlers fall and get a boo–boo. The child runs to Mommy for a kiss on the boo-boo to make it better. Then the child feels it’s all better. The world needs to be healed of its boo-boo. Grace and Faith is what heals the world. The gift of Faith comes from God and it’s united with Grace. By Grace we have been saved.

Salvation is a gift. Children get Christmas gifts and they never have to pay for them. They just have to receive them for the gift to be theirs. We have to take the gift from God for it to be ours. To receive a gift you have to do the action of reaching out and taking the gift. The Salvation, the gift is not given to us for our works or for something good we did. It is given to us because God loves us and gave it to us.

The good works we do will NEVER give us Salvation. God does not want us running around boasting that we saved ourselves. People would walk around saying how much Bible study time they did and how also they saved themselves. We are created in Christ Jesus to do good works. We are His workmanship, Jesus’s workmanship. We are His workmanship that is located in Christ Jesus. We are new creations in Jesus. This is so we can do good works through Jesus. The good works are in Jesus and NOT in us. We are to become like Jesus and are to walk in Jesus’s good works. By GRACE are we saved through FAITH and this is a GIFT from GOD.

AMEN

In american literature there is this pervasive myth...the myth of the 'self-made' man. This person is someone who believes they made themselves. Lol.
